Sometimes DU makes me sad
It makes me sad when I'm posting on a thread and there are obvious trolls posting but you can't really alert because half the posters on the thread-who are tried and trued DU'ers-are taking the same side of the issue as the trolls.

Sigh...Thanks for listening. Just had to get that off my chest. Night all. Thanks for refuge of the Lounge. Peace...

1. Who says you can't alert
Sometimes by alerting the mods look at the thread harder.

3. Hmmm
so, how is it you find the obvious troll when 1/2 the board agrees with him?

9. I guess I shouldn't have used the word obvious
I just had my suspicious based on their brand new registration date and their conservative viewpoint. (And they had started a thread about how great the Iraq war is) The point of my frustration was that the thread topic was one where there is what I would call a progressive viewpoint and a conservative viewpoint. And sometimes I just get sad to see so many people supporting what I consider the conservative viewpoint. Makes me feel like a duck out of water. That's all.

18. I see now, thanks
wasn't sure what you meant, but yeah, that thread was a little odd. I think DUers dida great job of trying to be open to someone else's viewpoint and not belittling someone else for thinking different. I didn't see a lot of outright agreement, though, and that is further encouragement for the DU I know and love.

13. I am not one for any ideology, but the ideology here is obvious......
It seems to me that the prevalent mood, on this board, is that of tolerance.

Am I an idealist, totally off of the mark?

17. I hope you are right
I know I'd get pretty bored and not learn much if everyone agreed all the time.

22. If this 250+ post thread I've just seen
is the one you are talking about, the problem you had was that some of the 'entities' that usually are in the basement have escaped again.

Apologies, we will get some better chains.

14. Boy, that's the truth!
I closed that thread and logged out of DU. I was hoping to see some change in heart in some posters as the debate continued; but sadly a cold heart is a cold heart.

I tell ya what, let's just starve, deny health care, prescription coverage, cancel all environmental regulations, drop OSHA, discontinue pollution controls, and put in jail each homeless family that falls asleep in the parks. While we're busy doing that, we won't bother to cry foul to an illegal war, corporate welfare, corporate crime, tax-breaks for the rich, militarization of the police, what else have I missed?

After all, we have to keep our priorities straight and not let the poor get away with 'stealing' all the luxurious candy bars.

:grr:

21. Glad I skipped that thread
I'm in enough trouble here on DU as it is.There's no way I would keep my cool in that type of conversation.Too many people just have no clue at all what it's like to be really poor and/or homeless.

16. I know exactly what you mean, SC
quarrelling over candy. I'm reminded on a quite well-off family of four who decided to live for a year on the amount of money considered to be poverty in America. At the end of the year, everyone in the family said the same thing - by cutting to the bone, they survived. But what they missed the most was small things like candy and a movie and a trip to the restaurant - you know, the things in life that MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING. *FUN*

19. I finally had to ignore that thread.
It's infuriating! I felt like the thread was possessed by Limbaugh and O'Reilly.

6. Don't worry MidwestMomma
there are some days or threads when things are a little off.

Poor IG got a bit of a rough ride on one thread today, but she coped quite easily.

15. You know MidwestMomma...
I think we all get a little down from time to time. The past few months have been pretty hard on many, and there are quite a few passionate people here in DU.

All of us try very hard to avoid people that come in here to disrupt, but sometimes that happens. Don't be discouraged, you are among some of the kindest and most wonderful people I've never met in person, but have a deep bond with so many of them.

The thread that keeps us all together is the common thread of dignity and a knowledge that we are doing the right thing for the country; and yes, that includes the RW that despises us so. If they don't thank us for our work, I can pretty well guarantee that their children will.

Hang in there, you are strong and you're surrounded by great people here on DU. We'll prop you up when you're down, and you'll be propping up others when they have a downward spiral. After all, that is what our principles require of us, and we do it gladly.

O8)
