New inductees in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Harrison, Prince, Seger Set for Rock Hall

NEW YORK (AP) -- Late Beatle George Harrison, Prince, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Traffic, ZZ Top and the Dells will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday night before a black-tie crowd at Manhattan's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Prince was set for a particularly busy night, planning a midnight show at a New York club after his induction.

Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner was to be inducted for lifetime achievement in the nonperformer category. Wenner co-founded Rolling Stone with writer Ralph J. Gleason in 1967.

that song is Patty Smythe - not Patty Smith. I've confused them before, myself.

3. If you're my age (47) and grew up in Michigan
Bob Seger was the professor of Rock 'n' Roll 101. I bet I saw him a dozen times before I was 18. About time the Hall of Fame inducts him.
John
And, yes -- Traffic is VERY cool too.

20. Bob Seger
Bob Seger is my favorite musician. My friends make fun of me for it (I'm 18--they like Linkin Park, etc.), but he's awesome! I've only "found" him about a year ago, so I haven't got to see him live. :(

24. Good for you! I remember Seger, 1969, when I turned 18. Story for you.
Just about the time I turned 18, in 1969, I went to a Seger concert at the University of Detroit outdoor stadium to benefit Open City (one of those quaint groups that feed the poor; not relevant in the Bush Administration). Anyway, the music was great - as an East Sider (you are East Side or West Side in the Detroit area), I knew Bob from his days in Harper Woods. He was young, and I was younger (don't get to say that much anymore). He rocked, as I recall, but I must admit, a very attractive and buxom woman with no shirt on and an Open City bumper sticker on each breast came around collecting contributions left an unforgettable impression (she did quite well on the contributions). 2+2 is on my mind. Hope it's on yours, and carry on the Rock!

8. The Dells are from my parents hometown of Harvey IL.
I was actually driving down a street the other day that was renamed in their honor, 'Dells Way'.

Yeah, I don't know. I grew up 3 miles from where the Dells originated and I don't know much about them either.

What a bunch of bland inductees this year. If it wasn't for Prince, it would be pretty pointless to follow it.

Wait a minute, it is pretty pointless to follow it anyway.

9. They are an old R&B singing group

Did you see the movie, The Five Heartbeats with Robert Townsend?

That movie was patterned after the group.

One of the highlights of The Dells' career, which introduced them to the "Hip-Hop Generation", was when director Robert Townsend wrote the inspiring movie The Five Heartbeats based on the tumultuous lives and career of The Dells. This film produced the hit sound track chartbuster A Heart Is A House For Love which catapulted The Dells into another dimension as 'superstars'.

The Dells are recipients of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's 'Pioneer Hall Of Fame' award, the 24th annual NAACP's 'Image Award', the 'Soul Of American Music' award, the Illinois NARAS 'Governor's Award', the 'Jackie Awards' and many lifetime achievement awards from governors and mayors.

11. They Were a Doo-Wop Group
Probably their biggest hit was "Oh What a Night." If you remember the movie "American Graffiti", that was the song they were playing at the airport at the end of the movie.

12. Well, Prince deserves it.
Seger had a mess of fine singles with the Last Heard, and "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" (the first Bob Seger System album) was a damn good record.

I never cared much for the Silver Bullet Band, though. Tailor made for truck commercials -- well, there we go! Chevy is Like a Rock! Ugh.

Then again, he might just deserve it for his '60s output.

The others, screw 'em. Harrison only had one good post-Beatles song (you know, "One Fine Day"), can't stand Traffic, Jackson Browne? ZZ Top? Get real.

Induct Link Wray. Then I might be interested. ;)

The Rock & Roll Hall of Lame.

ZZ Top???? Give me a f***ing break! What did they ever contribute to music? Beards?

Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 09:51 PM by Crisco
ZZ added an element of fun that was otherwise lacking from overly pretentious, WE ARE SERIOUS MUSICIANS, '70s rock.

RR Hall of Fame is just another way of saying, "stick a fork in 'em."

23. Oh... I am NOT kidding.
I've known ZZ Top since 1976, I didn't like them then and I still don't! Fine, they're fun band for some people. Sure they had a sound of their own but I'm hard pressed to name a band that they actually influenced. They're getting into "The Hall of Lame" because of really long beards, a few boring hits, and a music video featuring a really cool car and hot broads. BFD! :puke:

Should Jimmy Buffet get in too?

Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 09:08 PM by opiate69
Oh, yeah.. a bunch of bands that nobody actually listens to, but "critics" incessantly try to name-drop so they look like they have more credibility than their Junior College journalism AA degree gives them..
