Do You Say "I Love You" Enough?

My cousin's husband passed away last Thursday. Bill was only 46 years old. He'd been sick with heart disease for quite some time, and actually lived longer than the doctors had expected.

Bill and Mayra had one child, and she was a miracle. Mayra had pelvic cancer when she was in her 20's and she was told she was infertile. When she got pregnant with Danielle, she initially thought the cancer had returned, and she wouldn't tell anyone, but we knew she was worried about something. She went to the doctor and found out she was 4 months pregnant. Danielle was a tiny full term baby; she weighed just over 5 pounds when she was born. Our entire family is crazy about her.

I wish I could see Bill one more time to tell him I love him.

If you love someone, tell them. I tell every member of my family every time I talk to them. I tell Bertha many times daily. I tell my friends, too.

Life is precious, and sometimes all too short.

I tell my wife that I love here at least once every day - usually several times. And every time I talk to my grown kids in NJ, they usually say "I love you" before I get the chance. Maybe that's because their mother died five years ago and I'm the only parent they have left...

I know from my own experience how fragile life is, so i'm not shy about telling those I love that I do. :)

I remember being SO grateful that the last words anyone in our family ever spoke to her were "I love yous" = we had just been all together for the New Year and hugs and love were passed all around before we all went our separate ways, and we never saw her again.
Say it while you can...you never know when you might have the opportunity taken from you.

The night before my father passed away, I couldn't sleep. I was visiting the family. Dad was gravely ill (from cancer) and was at home. He was in a hospital bed in the living room (the bed and my dad couldn't be moved upstairs to my parents' bedroom)

Anyway, the night before my dad passed away, I went out to the living room. Dad was not awake (he was very still, asleep, but quite out of it. The cancer was bad at that point. He was not lucid at times, not recognizing us).

I sat at the chair next to Dad's bed, and told him how honored I was to be his son...and that I loved him very much. I don't know how much of it he actually heard. But I was glad I told him.

No, you can never say "I love you" often enough.

And I love my fellow DU'ers also.

Of course "enough" is in the eye of the beholder. Say it more often than you're comfortable with, and you'll have no regrets later.
