I'm majorly mad

I live in a rich, all-white suburb. My school just built an athletic facility that cost 6 million dollars. We had 3 fuctioning gyms at the time.

And now, the federal government just gave my school a 1 million dollar grant. ARRRRRRRGHHHHH!!!!!

GIVE THE MONEY TO SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are plenty of schools in this country with no roofs, or no floors, or pencils, or books. Give it to them!!!

It seems like this country is evolving into a place where we allocate resources only to the people that don't need them. The people in need however, are not eligible for money, so they get screwed. :argh: :argh: :argh:

both for getting a good education/work out and having compassion for those who dont..

i grew up in a wealthy indian household and poverty always outraged me because i knew it had a cure yet no one did anything about it

but.... a $6,000,000 fieldhouse?!?!?!? It's just plain not needed!! A school should be about academics first, not sports. (My latin teacher has to buy whiteboard markers with her own money! The rich school won't pay for it!)

I grew up in a similar suburb (Chicago area). The school looks like a college. My parents, who still live there, say they get hit up at least once a year for things like, "our fine-arts series cost more than we expected, can you help?"

I also get the occasional "support Stevenson" mailing via the alumni list. I toss them.
