ALRIGHT!! NOW I GOT A REAL RANT (AND ITS IN ALL CAPS)
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 06:28 PM by matcom
AND I AM NOT SORRY

I HAVE CREDIT CARDS. ABOUT 8 OF THEM. YES, I HAVE TO CARRY BALANCES ON THEM (UNFORTUNATELY).

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I GET A STATEMENT FROM MBNA (YES, I KNOW THEIR POLITICS BUT THE ACCOUNT WAS OPENED A FEW YEARS AGO TO START MY BUSINESS AND THEIR WAS NOTHING I COULD DO AT THE TIME.

MY INTEREST RATE WENT UP. TO 29%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO LATE PAYMENTS
NO CREDIT PROBLEMS

I CALL THEM.

SIR, WE RAISED YOUR RATE BECAUSE YOU DEBT TO CREDIT RATIO WENT UP

ME: "AM I NOT A GOOD CUSTOMER? ALWAYS PAYING ON TIME?"

THEM: "THAT IS NOT THE POINT. YOUR RATIO WENT UP.

ME: "HAVE I NOT BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER?

THEM: "SIR, THAT IS NOT THE POINT......."

ME: "WILL YOU LOWER MY RATE FOR BEING A GOOD CUSTOMER?"

THEM: "NO SIR, WE WON'T"

ME: "WHAT IF I FILE BANKRUPTCY TOMORROW AND NOT PAY YOU A GODDAMNED DIME!!!!!"

THEM: "WE HOPE YOU DON'T DO THAT BUT THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO"

:grr:

THEN, I OPEN MY CHASE STATEMENT.......................

NOW, I ONLY OWE $1,000 ON THAT CARD. DIDN'T EVEN USE IT FOR OVER A YEAR AND PUT PLANE TICKETS ON IT FOR MY STEP-SON'S GRADUATION IN MAY.

INTEREST RATE? 24.99%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%?????????????????????????

CALL THEM UP!!

ME: "WHY DID YOU RAISE MY INTEREST RATE?"

THEM: "WE SENT YOU A LETTER LAST MONTH STATING THAT YOUR RATE WOULD GO UP UNLESS YOU WANTED TO CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT"

ME: "I DIDN'T WANT TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT"

THEM: "THEN YOUR RATE DOUBLED. IT WAS IN THE LETTER"

ME: "WHY WOULD YOU WANT ME TO CLOSE OUT WHEN I AM A GOOD CUSTOMER?"

THEM: "YES, YOU ARE A GOOD CUSTOMER BUT THE LETTER STATED......"

ME: "DON'T YOU WANT GOOD PAYING CUSTOMERS?"

THEM: "SIR, YOU WERE SENT THE LETTER"

ME: "ARE YOU TELLING ME I AM NOT A GOOD CUSTOMER?"

THEM: "NO SIR, YOU ARE A GREAT CUSTOMER"

ME: "THEN WHY ARE YOU FUCKING ME IN THE ASS?"

THEM: "SIR DON'T TALK TO ME THAT WAY"

ME: "YOU GOING TO LOWER MY INTEREST RATE SINCE I AM SUCH A GOOD CUSTOMER?"

THEM: "NO SIR, YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT"

ME: "I DIDN'T WANT TO CLOSE IT"

THEM: "THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY THE INTEREST RATE WE SET FOR YOU"

ME: "TELL ME, IF I HAD A BALANCE OF $100K, WOULD YOU BE TREATING ME THIS WAY?"

THEM: "SIR, YOU RECEIVED A LETTER LAST MONTH"

ME: "FUCK YOU BITCH AND KISS MY ASS! YOU'LL BE LUCKY IF YOU GET PAID ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

</caps>

to pay these people. If they're gonna fuck you over if you do pay and they're gonna fuck you over if you don't...then what exactly is the point?

Want me to hit them on the head with a shovel for ya? I can get you on the list behind Raven's current clients.

6. WOW!
That f***ing sucks! I have run up my cards a bit because I am also trying to start a business....I didn't know they could raise your rates simply because you had more debt now.
I have almost paid off my MBNA card since I found out they donate to *, now I DEFINITELY will.

7. Don't use them anymore
Yeah, I probably have zero to shit credit, and have a hell of a time renting cars, but not being slave to interest rates is worth all of those inconveniences.

I have insurance through USAA, but didn't know they have credit cards. But, they do outsource (Lou Dobbs told me so a couple weeks ago)

13. My credit card through them has had a steady 3.7% interest rate.
Great customer support, great bonus stuff, great service. It sucks that they outsource, but my financial situation doesn't allow me to be too picky on that score--even with my perfect credit rating, it'd be tough to find a better deal. :(

11. Maybe something in here will help you reorganize it
http://www.smartmoney.com/debt/

I am just outraged by this.

I just got a notice from MBNA that the default rate on my card was going up to 24.99%. This is a card with ZERO balance that I haven't used since I paid it off a year ago. I have some debt on another card but nothing too outrageous. When I called to ask why the change in the default rate the kid told me EVERY bank was doing this. How do they justify it??? Since then I look at every 0% offer that comes in the mail and they all have 25% default rates. Default is defined however they want to define it. Congress needs to do something about this. It is an OUTRAGE.

and tell them you want to cancel. If they ask why, tell them. Worked for me many times - can you lower my rates? No. Good then cancel. Wait a moment pls. Hello this is the supervisor can i help you? Yes lower my rates or im going elsewhere. Of course sir you are a good customer and so on and so forth.... give it a try - dont lose your temper - if they start giving you flak just tell them in a nice calm voice - i am asking you to cancel my account - are you having trouble understanding me?

18. That doesn't work if you have a lot of debt
When my debt was high they wouldn't give me a break at all. And if I threatened to cancel that was fine with them. When your debt is high it's hard to get another card to transfer it to.

I did go to a debt consolidation place, although I wound up not using them and doing it myself. But this company was brought in to my office to give a presentation, so I figured they were legit - BUCCS - Budget Credit Counseling Service. If you continue to get screwed on the rates it might be worth talking to them. It's $25 for a consultation.

19. This doesn't happen to rich republicans, I'll bet.
Shee-yit, matcom. They all busted your ass on the fine print, and that sucks. The credit cards given to the gratuitously affluent lack such provisions, but the cards they give to Normal Joes have some nasty shit written into them. They figure they make less money off the average American, so they gotta get their cash somehow.

Bastards, the lot of them.

20. If you own a home.. check out the equity line of credit cards
Rates are a bit over prime.

consolidate all those debts into one payment and get to claim the interest from it too.

21. Here's what reprehensor and I did.
When we got married we had about $30,000 debt between us.

Every 0% card we were offered, we signed up for. We transferred as much from 1 card as we could to the 0%.

We kept the card for as long as the 0% lasted. When we got a new 0%offer in the mail close to the time the current one expired, we switched it over.

In the last 4 years since we got married, we have managed to pay off $20,000. The credit card hop may be a little labor intensive (as far as keeping track of all the dates and rates), but he puts everything in Quicken to keep track of it, and we've managed to save ourselves thousands of dollars in interest.

Someone pointed out to me that it affects your credit when you get all these cards, but it also looks great when they are all paid off with 0 balances years down the road. If you're going to be paying them off anyhow, might as well save yourself a few bucks, right?

23. NEVER get credit cards from banks or finance companies
always get them from credit unions when you can. Most credit unions have permanent low rates of interest.

MNBA is the WORST. They SUCK. The only one that was worse was Providian, and they've lost a half-dozen class action suits for that kind of predatory usury.

I would send a polite, but very irritated, registered letter protesting the change in rate. That doesn't guarantee they'll lower the rate, but they CAN and sometimes they WILL. It only costs you a stamp. cc whoever regulates consumer credit in your state, too, or cc the FDIC in the case of banks.

24. Low rate cards
You have got me searching the web. I'm furious about this. I want to cancel my MBNA over the contributions to chimpy. I want to lower the 13% rate on my other card which I think is way too high.
