Obscure fictional commercial icons
I remember:
Buffalo Bee - Nabisco Wheat Honeys
Sugar Bear - Super Sugar Crisp
Otto the Orkin Man
Speedy Alka-Seltzer

Who do you remember?

1. Reddi Kilowatt
Was the corporate icon for Pacific Gas & Electric, San Francisco Bay Area power utility, in the 1960's and 1970's.

I always thought Reddi Kilowatt was kinda cute. In a manly way, of course!

4. We had Reddi Kilowat too
Up here for BC Hydro. In Vancouver, when I was little and we drove by the electric station, he was there in neon. I was emotionally attached to Reddi.hahaha

5. Dallas Power & Light
had Reddi Kilowatt also! Wow, I had forgotten him. He had a little jingle:

I'm the little man who's always there
I'm a powerful high-voltage guy.
With my powerful spark I can light up the dark
And you should see me with my electric eye!

I wash and dry your clothes, play your radios
I'm what keeps your coffee hot
And I'm always there with lots of power to spare
'Cause I'm Reddi Kilowatt!

8. Just Proves Power Co's Conspired
We always suspected they were in it together. The Pacific Northwest has public power, makes much more sense. Oddly, California is supposed to be such a socialist republic . . . but the utility companies here (PG&E, SoCalEdison) are private. Except for LA DWP, which is as bad or worse than any of the private utilities.

Remember the movie "Chinatown"?

2. I'm not sure if you would call him commercial
It's arguable either way, but Mr. Zippy (or something like that) comes to mind. It was from the postal service.

And, btw, I resent you calling Sugar Bear obscure. :)

3. Nauga, the icon for Naugahyde (circa 1965)
Incidentally, it's called "Naugahyde" because it was invented in Naugatuck, Connecticut.

"Naugatuck" is an ancient Native American word that means "Not Waterbury."

Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 04:00 AM by Kool Kitty
advertisement for White Rock Soda. On edit-Buster Brown and Tige, his dog. The were the advertisement for Buster Brown Shoes. (I even remember their song-Does your shoe have a boy inside, what a funny place for a boy to hide. Does your shoe have a dog, there, too? A boy and a dog and a foot in a shoe. Well, the boy is Buster Brown and the dog is Tige, his friend...) And the Dutch Boy, for Dutch Boy Paints.
