OMG......a lightning bolt just struck outside my house!
There's a scorched plot of land outside my room right now.

I think its safe to assume that you got jolted right out of your seat.

I've seen that once, its awesome. Our driveway was burned up pretty good by a lightning bolt, also blew out two lamps. Hope your puter is on a surge protector.

4. Get a shovel tomorrow
and carefully dig around the site. You may be in for an interesting surprise; it depends on the composition of the soil at the location of the strike.

5. Fulgarites!
I'd love to have one for my rock collection. I do have a piece of Trinityite, but no Fulgarites.

8. That's happened to me... Scary as hell.
Lightning hit a telephone pole five feet from my balcony. It burned green for about ten minutes. I don't even want to think about what that implies.

9. Nothing to worry about
I've actually been hit by lightening. Twice. Seriously.

After the ringing in your ears stops, and your friends stop asking "are you okay?", and the normal vision of reality comes back, everything is okay.

The funny thing is, after I got struck by lightening the first time, I thought "oh, there's no way it could happen a second time." And over the years, I've come to realize that there are some people who are just born with shitty luck.

10. Our house was struck by lightening
It happened last Labor Day. It hit a pine tree then ripped through the ground and destroyed nearby plants, the cable box, a couple of televisions, vcr's, the answering machine, the modem, and the dryer.

12. I Wouldn't Worry About It
It works out to a once-in-7-year event for me (and I'm 50).

Just make sure you have everything on the house/apartment grounded as well as possible and run your sensitive electronics through a quality surge protector.
