Happy Birthday, NightTrain!!!
Hi, honey! :hi: :loveya: Lucky you, you're actually a year younger than me, lol (hey, I've always wanted a young stud!) :bounce:

I'm so sorry we had to cancel our plans to finally meet in person this weekend, it was just as much a disappointment to me as to you. But we'll get it together here soon, I promise! It's too bad, too, given the week we've both had, we could have really used each other's company!

And I can't tell you how much you helped me emotionally this week, too, as bad a shape as I've been in, I hope I was able to do the same with you in dealing with your bad news, as well.

So I thought I'd just say publicly HAPPY BIRTHDAY and let everyone here at our second family, DU, know just how wonderful you really are!!!!!!!!                :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

3. Thank you, sweetheart!
Glad you're in better spirits than you were when we talked on Thursday morning. Remember, whatever happens, I'll do everything I can to help you through it!

And there's no need for you to apologize for our big weekend not panning out (yet). Remember, I was the one who suggested that we postpone our plans. You simply agreed to it, and quite reluctantly!

I certainly wish we could be together, but since I'm staying in Connecticut this weekend, I've decided to do my radio show tonight, rather than having another DJ fill in for me, as I had originally planned. What the hell, it's all but impossible for me to feel sad or pissed off when I'm on the air!

when you're on the air (I love that I'm able to listen to your show thanks to internet connections), anyone listening can tell what a great time you're having!

11. Happy Birthday to you
and me too! How can I find your radio show? I'd love to hear it! I was in a band from '93-98 myself and used to write for JUICE (music/skate/surf mag).
Went back to nursing in late '98.
I'm glad to hear you and liberalhistorian are gonna reconnect, I was sorry to hear of your disappointment!:hi:

12. You can hear my radio show on-line via this link
http://whus.org/listen.html

It airs on Saturday nights, normally from 9:00-midnight EST. However, due to March Madness, a *&!@^#$% basketball game will delay the start of my show tonight until 10:00. :grr:

16. That's one of the things
I love about you, Dean, you share my dislike of sports, especially when the #$#(%*#(^*@#($^(#@*%(#$%#@ games of whatever stupid variation of ball happens to pre-empt something you like and want to see/hear! I've never met a man who wasn't really into sports, so it's really refreshing.

I think we're maybe two of the four people in the entire country who don't give a damn about March Madness and wish it would be the hell over already! March "Madness" indeed, only we aren't quite using the term "madness" the way they are, lol!

20. Now, now

Let's not get into a tizzy about this... :)

On a serious note, we watch because we enjoy watching someone perform at the top of his/her craft. It's pretty much the same as watching a fine musician, or artist, or woodworker. In addition, there is the part of us that enjoys watching the David beating Goliath battle that often happens, and the joy of watching kids play a kids game - before it becomes a job.

Did you play sports as a kid, or do you now? if so, and you battled (or continue to battle) with your inner self vis a vis getting better, then you'll understand why sports are important to us. I'm an OK golfer, yet I watch with amazement at what some can do. On a non-sports note, I'm a pretty good woodworker, yet I cringe when I see what others can do. Doesn't mean I'll stop trying, it just means I'll strive to reach that level of competence.

There is a beauty to sport - granted it's hard to find now under all the "what's in it for me" junk that permeates it, but it's there. We can see it - sorry that you can't.

Rock on. :)

24. LOL!
Oh, I know you're right, DB, and no one has the right to try to take that away from you, I'm glad you and so many others are able to enjoy it. I think what I get tired of is the constant hype and the expectations that EVERYONE should join in and there's something wrong with you if you don't.

And when was the last time a favorite TV or radio show was pre-empted because of a theater or musical "playoff?"

25. That's true

With regards to theater "playoffs" - just a common symptom of whatever the masses want. Plus, when is the last time there was an "over/under" betting line on Fiddler On The Roof? :)

It's funny, though - as more and more folks become more and involved with the watching of sports due to what they have become, I become less and less enamored with them for the very same reasons. I honestly watch for the ability of the athlete, and that is fast becoming pushed aside in favor of marketing, or showmanship, or whatever.

I think that's why March Madness draws so well - there is still a glimpse of "non-professionalism" in it, and in today's game that is refreshing.

I can see myself watching less and less over the years, if present trends continue.
