I went to a gun show today. Ask me anything
I was surprised that it wasn't as freeper-choked as I expected. The shows I've been to in the past have had half of the sales area devoted to freeperizing the world: t-shirts, posters from the Church of American Patriotism, books by Paladin Press, etc. There was one stand selling t-shirts, some were freeperizms, but most were not.
AND...
not a single Bush sticker in the parking lot, or give away your vote to Bush sign inside! Not what I was expecting at all!

However, the guns were simply too expensive.

1. Any people selling military medals inside?
I collect antique and foreign military medals and I always look out for them at gun shows. Any of those?

Only one table though...again, a lot less than usual.

3. Did you win Best In Show?
Oh, sorry, that's a DOG show. Funny, when people say "gun show" I always think of other such events where people show their dogs, or flowers, or crafts and get ribbons! Think about the possible funny visuals - people competing for ribbons with their guns...

Oh, well. It was just a goofy thought...

They're target shooting competitions.

8. No, not at this one
really surprised me too. I ALWAYS see that stuff at gun shows, to appease the freepidjits. Not this one though. Weird, because there were more freepers at the Atlanta Outdoor Expo in February than at a gun show.

15. Actually, the author, William Powell...
... regrets ever writing the thing. Read his review from Amazon.com

Peace!

===========================

From the Author
I have recently been made aware of several websites that focus on The Anarchist Cookbook. As the author of the original publication some 30 plus years ago, it is appropriate for me to comment.
The Anarchist Cookbook was written during 1968 and part of 1969 soon after I graduated from high school. At the time, I was 19 years old and the Vietnam War and the so-called \223counter culture movement\224 were at their height. I was involved in the anti-war movement and attended numerous peace rallies and demonstrations. The book, in many respects, was a misguided product of my adolescent anger at the prospect of being drafted and sent to Vietnam to fight in a war that I did not believe in.

I conducted the research for the manuscript on my own, primarily at the New York City Public Library. Most of the contents were gleaned from Military and Special Forces Manuals. I was not member of any radical group of either a left or right wing persuasion.

I submitted the manuscript directly to a number of publishers without the help or advice of an agent. Ultimately, it was accepted by Lyle Stuart Inc. and was published verbatim \226 without editing \226 in early 1970. Contrary to what is the normal custom, the copyright for the book was taken out in the name of the publisher rather than the author. I did not appreciate the significance of this at the time and would only come to understand it some years later when I requested that the book be taken out of print.

The central idea to the book was that violence is an acceptable means to bring about political change. I no longer agree with this.

Apparently in recent years, The Anarchist Cookbook has seen a number of \221copy cat' type publications, some with remarkably similar titles (Anarchist Cookbook II, IIIetc). I am not familiar with these publications and cannot comment upon them. I can say that the original Anarchist Cookbook has not been revised or updated in any way by me since it was first published.

During the years that followed its publication, I went to university, married, became a father and a teacher of adolescents. These developments had a profound moral and spiritual effect on me. I found that I no longer agreed with what I had written earlier and I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the ideas that I had put my name to. In 1976 I became a confirmed Anglican Christian and shortly thereafter I wrote to Lyle Stuart Inc. explaining that I no longer held the views that were expressed in the book and requested that The Anarchist Cookbook be taken out of print. The response from the publisher was that the copyright was in his name and therefore such a decision was his to make \226 not the author's. In the early 1980's, the rights for the book were sold to another publisher. I have had no contact with that publisher (other than to request that the book be taken out of print) and I receive no royalties.

Unfortunately, the book continues to be in print and with the advent of the Internet several websites dealing with it have emerged. I want to state categorically that I am not in agreement with the contents of The Anarchist Cookbook and I would be very pleased (and relieved) to see its publication discontinued. I consider it to be a misguided and potentially dangerous publication which should be taken out of print.

William Powell --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

19. Ever see the Jolly Roger Cookbook?
Used to be available on the internet. It's like Anarchists' cookbook, but I think it was written by militias and hate groups. There's a lot of racist references in it.

I'm not sure which show you were at, but I found this:

First-generation Colts, made from 1873 to 1940, can command from $10,000 to $20,000, depending on who owned them, he said.

That's alot of money just for a revolver!

Well that answers a question from my youth.

I always wondered what happened to all them guns you see them cowboys throwing away in the desert!

The collectors got 'em!

. . . :silly: . . .

20. Since we have concealed carry in Ohio now I have been thinking of
a Glock 19 or a Springfield XD. Which would you prefer? I have been told by a couple gun dealers they prefer the Springfield and it's cheaper too.

21. Glocks are very durable
I personally would look at one in a different caliber than 9 mm, maybe a .41 or a .45. Depends on what you want it for.
I don't have a concealed permit, so there may be factors that I'm not thinking about.

23. Need to shoot Republicans in Hummers, just joking.
The concealed carry just passed a few weeks ago. From what I hear it will cost $45 for the permit and another $80 for a safety course. Everything is about money anymore. I work shift work and travel roads where houses are miles apart. Also would be good to have some protection when coming in from fishing sometimes to a remote boat launch.

17. What I don't get are people
who try to tell you that Republican politicians are pro-gun. I find it's a real conversation killer when talking to a Republican.

Republican voter: Blah Blah Blah Bush is pro-gun Blah Blah.

Me: Really? When is he going to repeal all that gun control Reagan and his father passed.

Conversation ended.

29. gun show question
do any merchants carry old military firearms that no longer operate? I am looking for a non-working Arisaka Type 38 or Type 99 rifle and wonder if I might encounter one at a show. I want to mount it in my office.

30. It'd be hit and miss at most shows
Better to try a show specializing in 'Militaria.' There's one in Valley Forge PA that brags it covers 'muzzleloaders to machine guns.' Don't remember who promotes it. Good luck!

Peace!
