Poll question: Who thinks posts for long time DUers are Discriminatory Fascist Crap
Who thinks threads for long time DUers only are Discriminatory Fascist Crap. Posts like "If you were here before 200X, speak up".

Second class newbies go to the back of the bus.

Quite frankly as a newbie DUer in 2004, I find it Barfable how many polls and posts mention things like "I was here in 2001". Implying that long term attachment to this place gives one special privilege. They almost have the same effect as asking "Wealthy Dems only, what's your favorite restaurant".

I am not at all against the fun of reminiscing and get a kick out of threads like the one about DU on invasion day 2003.

2. I think these question just point out what a nice place this is to be.
Just look at the length of time people spend on here. It can't be because they don't like the place. And sometimes it's just nice to point out the loyalty of the members of the DU forums.

No one is trying to discriminate against anyone here that I have seen.

Just my thoughts, thought I would share them.

3. DU does have too many cliques
And I find them to be a problem. People posting threads that only them and a few other people could possibly get for example.

I find 95% of DUers very friendly and they never look down on me for only having 1400 posts or so as opposed to 10,000. There are a few bad apples however.

4. I only have 984 / 985
15 to go until 1000 and I was seriously thinking of changing the name so I don't have to join the one thousand poster ranks.

Too bad it would screw my great odds of winning the DU March Madness Yahoo pool of a bumper sticker or whatever.

7. It used to be worse...
Each poster had their exact post count listed right there for everyone to see.

They actually changed it to "1000+" to try and elliminate some of this discrimination. When you hit 1000 now, I think you're basically accepted.

The reason some people a little wary of posters with lower post counts is because they're just afraid of freepers.

13. Members are accepted here way before they
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 07:17 PM by newyawker99
reach 1000 posts. In fact, they are accepted the
day they register at DU. Those who treat the 1000 post mark
as a measure of respectability are fooling themselves.
We have many very fine members who have less than
1000 posts. We even have 2 moderators with less than
1000 posts.

Whether we have post totals or not there will always
be bad apples. Treat the post total for what it is....
a measure of how many times a person has posted.

8. I think calling people names is pretty childish
I've never seen a thread saying "If you have posted 5000 times only you can post on this thread." I think you are seeing this through some filter that you probably carried with you since high school and now project every where you go...if other people share your filter...that doesn't make it any less of a filter.

I get pretty sick of threads where people start divisive crap like this when you could have just as easily joined in on the thread on which you are commenting and certainly nobody would have kicked you out.

Let's try not to make up issues where they don't exist.

As a long-time member, this is offensive.

If I were a newer member, I would find it offensive.

17. Other--I didn't join until 2002. If **** is re-elected,
we'll be rehashing this all in 2008.

If we survive. Actually, knowing the history of DU through the eyes of the old-timers is quite interesting, IMHO.

19. I'm pretty new
I think if you are basically polite, friendly and reasonable (and at times silly), people will be open to you.

I think many of the folks who have been here a long time know each other well and that is typical of anytime that you come into a new place, a bar, a college, a new work place. Just be patient. I have lived in places where the neighbors don't talk to you until you have lived there for 5 years!
