I just won $7,000
well, a little more than that. In an on-line poker tournament. I came in 2nd place. Woohoo!

This is a nice win for an unemployed person ;)

I was a big poker buff for many years before it started becoming a televised event. It's a different game now, but I'd love to win a big televised tourney.

12. I will be the wet blanket. How much did it cost you to win?
I really am glad you have the money, but I guess I worry about it as it is so iffy.I know people who spend 15plus a week on tickets and yet they do not win and they are not rich. That is a big cost per year. So if it cost you little I am all for it. Also it is these peoples money and I do not have to do it so I never say a thing to them. My father had a lot to do with such things when I was a child so I learned first hand, sorry. He did not lose he bailed out people.

20. Be sure to track all of your gambling winnings and losses carefully
I believe documentable gambling losses can be deducted from gambling winnings, which are of course taxable.

See your tax person if you have any questions.

22. losses can only be deducated in
years in which you have winnings. It's really unfair. If you win big one year, you pay taxes. If you lose the next 5 years, you can't write off any losses. Businesses can do that, but individual gamblers can't (and the only professional gamblers are poker players and sports betters).
