1. WIth that flag, you might be in my neighborhood.
I drink in Des Moines, and just outside Normandy Park. Listen to music at bars :)

I find it funny though, I found people are not the same in person as just hearing thoughts and laughs online, but there really are alot of great people around in real life as well as on the net.

:)

2. I'm in Montesano right now. "Hicksville" is perhaps a little unfair. They have a lovely courthouse.
And some beautiful private homes.

But compared to this place, Puyallup, my home, is a marvel of cosmopolitanism...

3. Des Moines is really getting better, new establishments, much cleaner.
Fun places, been going there for awhile, and like the town has a marina and a couple nice parks.

4. There's a really cool sports bar there in Des Moines. I can't remember the name of it,
but you couldn't go there and not have a good time. It was impossible...

5. Yea I been hanging out there a bit.
Not going out tonight, but been going down there on weekends.

The other bars are pretty good also, they all have their own flavor.

6. Montesano, Puyallup and Des Moines
Edited on Fri Apr-02-10 11:10 PM by lifesbeautifulmagic
are practically paradise compared to where I am.

Try Buckley. Not even a decent live music place.

Be careful what you say to whom in Montesano. They have a killer high school wrestling program. You don't want to mess with those guys/girls.

Whoops, my daughter informs me it is weight lifting and football....Almost same diff...

10. I don't even talk to the locals.
Unless they walk into the hospital. Then I have to. And usually, I like to. I love patient care...most of the time...

8. Did you get to the library like I told you?
And for the record, I'm already drunk.

Oh, and while you're in Montesano, do me a favor. Ask the local yokels if they know the park with the swinging bridge.

I know it's in the area, but I can't remember the proper name of the place, and it's driving me nuts.

11. Haven't hit the library yet. I have so many dog-gone books with me here right now. Textbooks...
And I'm not drunk enough to be happy, but too drunk to go out and get some more booze... :evilfrown:

15. OK.
Ask about that park though.

There's a swinging bridge that's up some distance over a small river or large creek. Good place for tubing and salmon berries in the summer.

13. A hospital rotation. The hospital is about eight miles up the road.
And home is a two-hour drive away. My wife and I did the math. It would be cheaper to stay here, in student lodging offered by a doctor in town, then to either stay in a hotel, or pay the gas to drive back and forth every day.

So I'm stuck in this hick town. I was supposed to go home today, but a severe wind and rain storm convinced my wife to urge me to stay here tonight, and drive home tomorrow morning...

I miss my wife...

Thanks for keeping me company, CalPeg...

16. Hey, I've got question for you!
I spent a couple of days this week at the EOS unit Group Health. I was dehydrated so was hooked up to an IV the whole time I was there. Why didn't they just give me a lot water to drink?

TIA!

:hi:

17. IV provides volume expansion much faster than by mouth.
Why were you dehydrated?

18. I didn't know I was.
Went to the doctor on Mon. and got admitted with celulitis on my face.

I thought I could have drunk (drank?) liquids a lot faster than it was going in via the IV.

19. However slowly the IV drip seems to be going in, it's going directly into your blood,
and your dehydrated system.

Water taken orally has to make what's called "first pass", the stomach, where some of the water is absorbed into the tissues there, then the small bowel, where the same thing happens again. None of it makes it past the large colon (unless you've got diarrhea) because almost the sole purpose of the large colon is to absorb (reabsorb, actually) water. That's a long trip for water to make if a doctor wants to cure your hypovolemia.

21. You're welcome. :-)
First pass is a factor in a lot of medications, too. Some lose their strength and potency going through the stomach, and so are only given IV or sub-cutaneously, or sublingually, like nitro-glycerin. Nitro is helpful during a heart attack or an episode of angina. If the nitro had to go through the digestive system, 'first pass', the patient might be dead before the medication could start to work...
