Poll question: Would you destroy humankind to save your SO?
Basically, if you chose to destroy humankind to save your SO, your SO and you would be the only humans left on Earth. If you chose not to, your SO dies but everyone else, including you, goes on about their lives.

4. My SO would not allow that.
She doesn't think much of humanity, but it does come with kids, so ya'all get a pass.

I know that because I DO have that kind of power.

13. It's a complex question and requires a lot of thought...
If your mate was willing to sacrifice the entire world of people would she be worth spending eternity with? And if you killed everyone to be with the person you love most, wouldn't that be a great act of selfishness? Could you live with yourself knowing you caused such great harm to so many people. Could you love the person you decided to keep and feel love for someone representing the deaths of everyone on earth?

My decision: Have some cherished moments together with the woman I loved and then give her up. But by her agreeing to be sacrificed for the good of all would make you love her that much more.

Either way, your heart is damaged. One unable to love again. The other forever broken.

17. I'm not in the best of health...
and am 10 years older then my wife. If I chose her over humanity, it's possible I wouldn't last much longer and she could spend many years in solitude thinking of her lost children.

14. I voted that I couldn't make that decision.
First off, I have no current SO.

Second off, I still love my last SO, but I wouldn't have the right to write off billions just for his sake. And it's not like we could repopulate the planet between us, (eerr, for reasons that are personal. Trust me on this. We won't make babies.)

and Third off, I actually believe in my heart of hearts that the Earth would be better off without homo sapiens, and the idea of an Earth without us really does touch my soul in a very good way. My first ever real, intense spiritual experience involved being a child in an old forest on very old mountains and understanding that the world I love was here long before I was born and would be here long after I was gone, which filled me with so much joy I was willing to accept the shortness of my own life. So, on some level, I will not be sorry to see my own species go as long as it means that all the others can live, so I can't be trusted on the 'What would YOU do to save humanity' front. IMO, saving humanity is not the most important goal.

However, I would save my ex-SO (still a good friend) before a stranger.

16. I would destroy humankind
just to watch it die.

I think it's more productive than just shooting a man in Reno.

er, wait, who would I brag to on Facebook? I'd have to register a lot of sockpuppets. Never mind, too much work.

:hi:

18. Who would want ro be with some freak that had just killed billions of people
Sounds like the worst case of stalking ever.

"Now you HAVE to be with me!"

"You sick twisted freak. You killed my family, friends and everyone I ever cared about. Fuck off. I'm putting half a globe between us."

19. "Every Breath You Take" - Police
Remember the song, "Every Breath You Take" by the Police when Sting was the lead singer? I loved the song, but it was a stalker's theme song. Within the song it says how the lovelorn guy will be watching his ex girlfriend with every breath he took. That song came out in 1982 and I remember when I first heard it. I had just woke up in my van after spending the night with my girlfriend. As soon as I turned the radio on that song came on. And the DJ said "This song is going to be number one". He was right, because the song skyrocketed to success. But since then, when stories began surfacing about men stalking women and even causing them great harm, stalking laws were introduced. Stalking had nothing to do with that song of course, but the lyrics of the song always made me think that it is the perfect stalker's theme song.

20. a few points.
First, there is no such choice since humankind includes me and Sweetie. What is good for them, is good for us.

Second, the real problem is that humanity is destroying itself and talking the rest of the complex life on Earth with it. There's nothing we can do to stop that, so I really don't mind taking care of her to the extent I can.

Finally, if it ever came to that and if it seemed clear that this self-destructive species was worth saving, it would have to be a murder-suicide.

But I am sure he wouldn't want everyone else to die so he could live. What would be the point?
