1. I watched it with no preconceptions about Giamatti.
And I thought he gave an excellent performance depicting a terribly complicated man.

2. I'm a fan of Paul Giamatti ever since he played pig-vomit
in Private Parts as Howard Stern's boss. He was great.

I really liked the John Adams series and Giamatti's performance.

3. I hated it
I couldn't figure out how to get it out of my Netflix queue and the damned discs just kept coming. By the time I found the delete button it was too late.

4. he was good, but Tom Wilkinson stole the show as Ben Franklin
in fact, I now want they to do a Ben Franklin biopic with Wilkinson as the lead role.

5. I LOVED him.
He was amazingly good. I was not familiar with him, and he blew me away.

Unite.....or Die.

A fantastic series...

6. He did a great job, I think.
It was another solid HBO original, which is frankly the only reason I get HBO. Having "Death Becomes Her" on 15 times a day really isn't the main selling point for me. But their original programming is usually top-notch.

7. The HBO series was great, and he did a fine job.
I loved it and bought the disc set when it was released (and I don't buy many DVDs).

8. I like him.
Thought he did a really good job.

Then again, I've liked him since I saw Private Parts and he played pig vomit, too funny.

I also liked him in a little quirky movie called American Splendor.

9. I think he was perfectly cast.
John Adams was, superficially, a sort of ordinary man. Not handsome and commanding like Washington, not a wordsmith and orator like Jefferson, , not a wiley old pragmatist and seducer like Ben Franklin. (I thought Tom Wilkinson stole the show, too.)

He was neither graceful or tactful, but Adams was utterly committed to what he believed in, no matter how frustrating things got. I thought Giamatti played him beautifully.

12. I made the mistake of seeing him for the first time as Harvey Pekar
There's no way I can look at him any other way now. He's ruined for me.

I used to watch Letterman in the days when Pekar was a guest with Dave, and it took years and the film American Splendor before I even understood what I was watching.

Actors need to be really careful about their first roles, imho.

16. I finally saw what everybody was raving about him for
In Sam Adams.

Sideways wasn't really an acting job, IMO. Just two whiny guys on a weekend bender.

Laura Linney as Abigail was cast just as well.
