On Saturday afternoon my car was the part of a 4-car accident. Mind you I wasn't driving it at the time, heck it wasn't even being drive. It was parked along the street in front of my house - I have only street parking at my house.
Because of street parking, I have no desire to get a new car for awhile. I have a 2000 Corolla (not a part of all that recall mess) with less than 90k miles on it (I work in the city where I live). The car drives with no issue and I've had no major costs to keep the car running other than the usual routine maintenence done. The car has been hit 3 times since I've moved into my house but the first 2 times were side swipes that took out my sideview mirror. I never had the small dent replaced since that was caused by a 'hit & run'.
I just talked to the autoshop and he said there's a good chance this car will end up being total. In the accident a Jeep hit a Ford Explorer with enough impacted that the Ford was pushed forward on top of my rear bumper on my Corolla. The whole trunk is smashed up.
I'm just pissed because I no intentions of buying another car for at least 4-6 years. I just bought my house, I really don't have the extra cash especially for monthly payments - why buy a new car when mine is driving like a charm and I'm happy with it.
I will be lucky if I get $4k for this car. And I'm pissed because I really don't want to get another car, I don't want car payments and for $4k I'm not going to get a whole lot of anything except junk unless I'm willing to make payments.
Why can't they just fix my car. It's all cosmetic damage.
It's not official yet but the autobody said there is a chance they may total it because of the cost to repair.
