Please help me with these German lyrics, okay?
The song is "Bittersweet" from Roxy Music's Album "Country Life."

Bitter - Sweet
(Bryan Ferry/Andy Mackay)

Well this is such
A sad affair
I've opened up my heart
So many times
But now it's closed
Oh my dear
Every salted tear
It wrings
Bitter - sweet applause
But when the show's in full swing
Every once in a while
High stepping chorus lines
Mean I'm forgetting
Mein lullaby - liebchen
How rich in contrast
Love can be
Sometimes I'm quite amused
To see it twist and turn
To taste - both sweet and dry
These vintage years!
Lovers you consume, my friend
As others their wine
Nein - das ist nicht
Das ende der welt
Gestrandet an leben und kunst
Und das spiel geht weiter
Wie man weiss
Noch viele schönste...wiedershen
And now, as you turn to leave
You try to force a smile -
As if to compensate -
Then you break down and cry

Okay, now I'll isolate the German verse:

"Nein - das ist nicht
Das ende der welt
Gestrandet an leben und kunst
Und das spiel geht weiter
Wie man weiss
Noch viele schönste...wiedershen"

Here is what I got from my mother's rusty German...

"No, this is the night
......
......freedom and art
.........
...goodbye"

Please help. Thank you.

1. Two years of very rusty high school German says
no, this is not
the end of the world
(I don't know this word- google translate says stranded) and love and art
and the game goes on
who knows
with many beautiful... goodbyes

2. Thank you, LeftyMom!
That makes sense to me. I have no idea what that word means either.

I love the bots.

3. I used to be fluent...
.
...after living there for 3-1/2 years, but after not
speaking almost a word of it for over 30 hears, here's
the best I can do:
.
no - that is not
the end of the world
Stranded in life and art
and the game goes on
as everybody knows
with many nice ("goodbyes" or "reunions")
Rama Lama, Rama Lama Ding Dong.
.
I bet tango-tee comes riding a weisse Pferd to the rescue.

18. Weisse Pferd was said to me often...
.
...and I've come to believe that it means, "I desperately
want you to be meine babydaddy!!!"
.
.
.
Or "White Horse".
.
.
.
.
.
You decide.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
I'm pretty happy about either translation.

20. Danke scheisse... vielen groovy.
.
Once, when trying to impress a young Czech woman's parents
with my (ahem) "honorable" intentions (no, REALLY) (really)
(REALLY and stop LAUGHING!!), I asked my Czech "friends"
how to say Old School dating-style, "I'd like your permission
to take your daughter out to dinner" in Czechoslovakian.
.
When I told them that with my big blue eyes and my innocent
smalltown Midwestern face, they bundled up their daughter and
scurried out of the gasthaus, never to be seen again.
.
NO sense of humor.
.
My "friends" were HOWLING!!!!!!
.
When those assholes of assholes finally calmed down, I found
that I had told her parents that their daughter had breasts
like the Alps.
.
I gotta admit.
.
That's pretty damned funny!!!!!
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
NOW.

21. Bwahahahaaaaa!
I think it's pretty damn funny when it happens to other people (chortle! sniff! tee hee hee!), but hate it when it happens to myself.

When I lived in Sicily, there was a problem with the water pipe, and my whole bathroom had to be dismantled. Finally, Mister Master Plumber himself showed up together with landlady and landlord, and there was also yours truly with her dictionary.

Looked up the word "waterpipe" and tried to make a little small talk with the plumber about new waterpipes and their merits compared to old ones. The smile disappeared off his face, he took on strange shade of purple, left the apartment in a huff and slammed the door behind himself. Landlord was crying tears of mirth, landlady looked at me in shock. I can only *imagine* what I said. Still  when I think about that. OMG...

8. I love Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music, too!
They are part of the family. I've played a lot their songs and live performances for my parents. They like them, but not as much as I do!

Have you seen the live performances and the hand gestures that Bryan Ferry does?

14. Never had the pleasure of seeing them live...
I don't know that they ever came around during my concert going days...

saw Bowie many times, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Yes, Talking Heads, other favorites but not Bryan Ferry or Roxy Music.

The hand gestures, though, I've seen in video performances.

:P

5. Here you go...
"No, this is the night
When I'll see Colbert's penis
A beacon of 'Murka's freedom and art
He wags it about with the force of Jesus
Then cruelly says goodbye"

15. You already have a really good translation here by MiddleFingerMom.
The last word "Wiedersehen" I would take to mean in that case "reunions", not "good-byes".

17. wiedersehen means "meet again"
auf means "until"

so when they say "auf wiedersehen" they are not saying goodbye per se, but "until (we) meet again"
