For the record, Charles Widmore leaving the sub AND the generator unguarded strains credulity.

Interesting to note, Widmore and Smokey had the same plan: blow everybody up.

52. Whoa, I just had a weird thought. (spoiler alert--I think I have the 2 sides sorted out)
As stated above, Widmore and Smokey had the same plan: get 'em all in a confined space together & blow everybody up.

Widmore also rather stupidly left the generator and the sub unguarded. So my question is... are Widmore and Smoky really on the same side? Are they only pretending to fight and actually working together to get Smokes off the island? Look, if this is all good vs evil, then there being three sides to the war they're fighting makes no sense. Ben vs Smokey AND Widmore vs Smokey doesn't have any traction to it. Charles set up his guys to die just to fool (who? Ben? Jacob?--Jacob's people have been saying all along Widmore's "on the wrong team"--certainly the Lostaways aren't important enough to con, they're just pawns!) us into thinking he's against Smokey.

Widmore and the MIB have been working together all along! Ben's been right since season 2. The Others are the good guys. They're just not very good at it.

56. Dude was boinking his daughter. Hell, I'd do the same.
Ha, just kidding. I don't know what his plan is, quite yet. He & Eloise have kept tabs on him for years, so he must be part of the plan somehow. It probably depends on what the point of the flash sideways universe is. Maybe island time is the alternate and the plot is to get Smokey off the bottom of the ocean, where Jack's H-bomb blew it to, and into the "real" universe, where all the Losties are flawed-but-happy campers after they arrived safely in LA X.

Maybe, I dunno what the big picture is. They're doing a good job of hiding it.

58. All action this episode...no answers
My prediction: There's a LOT of questions that won't be answered in the end.

My reasoning: Most of the the last three episodes would have to be exposition, with little action, to satisfy every freaking question the writers have raised.

Abrams is all about ramping up the action at the end of a story.

I'm afraid that this will be at the expense of a completely satisfying ending. Unless he's planning on dicking the audience around a leaving things open for a LOST movie.

59. Abrams, Cuse, & Lindeloff have all said they won't be doing a movie. It ends here for them.
They also point out that LOST legally belongs to Disney, so Disney may reboot it in a couple of years, maybe making "Lost Babies" like they did with the "Muppet Babies". Three of the cast have spawned (Desmond, Claire, & the Kwons), plus they'll probably throw Walt in there as the new Locke.

But the middle of Season 6 dragged so badly, I just have to think they're brewing up a big, satisfying finale.

Probably as much to sell more ads as anything but the Sunday finale will now be 2 and a half hours long. Which equals about 19 more minutes of show. Answer one question every thirty seconds and they may get there. :-)

Not surprisingly, Eko was one of his early targets. Partly that's cause the actor wanted to leave the show. But one thing the monster seems to do is judge people and punish them for their wrongdoings.

72. What a complete waste of good characters!
Sun & Jin were literally together for what? Hours? After being apart for three years?

And Sayid appeared to have a pretty good arc going there: His "infection", on top of being miraculously brought back from the dead. That was a good 5 episodes of material from the beginning of this season which seems to have been wasted.

And Kate lives????

73. No, no, no
Don't forget Jin and Sun are still alive in the sideways world (Jin was in the hospital hallway--passed Locke as he was leaving). And Sayid and even Lapidus could also be alive there. All we need is to make sure the sideways world becomes the true reality instead of the timeline that's been going on the whole series.

Easy peasy! :D (No, I have no idea how they're going to get there, but I trust they will.)

I still think of Sun and Jin in the Flash Sideways world as copies. The couple that drowned is the one I've been following for so many years so I'm a little bummed their demise seemed so quick after their reunion.

92. I'm a big fan of the movie Sliding Doors
Not a great movie by any stretch, but I love the concept of parallel lives occurring simultaneously and pulling for the better one to "win" and the incorrect one to fade away into nothingness. That's what we've got going on here, so don't discount the sideways world as extraneous! :)

113. Have you read "The Post Birthday World"
Lionel Shriver's book splits in two at the heroine's moment of temptation with a man who isn't her husband. One thread, she goes for it. The other, she doesn't. Really good book, appeared on a lot of critic's Best of the Year lists the year it was published. If you liked "Sliding Doors", you might enjoy it.

80. Sure. They're all fine in the alternate reality (For now)
But the two that drowned are the the Sun and Jin I've been following for so long. It's a bummer that the writers wiped them out so soon after their reunion (Reunited for what seemed like a few hours after being separated for 3 years!). On top of that, the mystery of which of the two was the true candidate is all for nothing, I guess.

Or they just get crossed off the list. I'm hoping Hurley comes out the hero in all this.

At least this way, they can go out on top (and by that I mean right in the forefront of our memories, instead of fading into the background).

109. By "the writers" you mean The Island, right?
Or are you under the delusion that this is just a tv show... and not the most important cultural event ever. EVER!

By the way, in season 1 they established that Jack can fly a plane--or at least took flying lessons for a while. Don't be surprised if that doesn't become important at some point.

Perhaps Current Locke did as well but never mentioned this. Something (Un)Locke could use to his advantage.

82. Why not read what head writers/producers DL and CC have to say about the deaths first (link:)
then decide if you think they were worthless. I think Damon and Carlton made an excellent case for the deaths of Jin, Sun, and Sayid.

83. Eh, still disappointed.
I don't think there's anyone here that questioned Fake Locke ever being anything but a true villain. The entire excuse that, "We had to show he was really REALLY evil" doesn't hold water with me. I think it's been established that he's the bad guy.

Again with Sayid, it's nice he drifted back to the good side. But they had set up several questions about his "infection" and strangely coming back from the dead that I'm afraid will never be answered now. It was a complete waste of an interesting arc for the character.(That goes for that entire subplot with the new "Others" at the beginning of this season. Did they really provide anything of worth to the storyline?)

Like the series OZ, LOST does do a good job offing characters at surprising moments. But why tease people with subplots that are never going to be answered?

Can't you tell? ;)

Seriously though, I'm just frustrated that certain elements of the story seem to be dropped for newer mysteries.

I'm also a little frustrating that Widmore simply didn't explain why he was protecting Sawyer and crew when he locked them in their cages. Really, when you think about it, how many lives could have been saved over the course of this series if people were just honest with one another? Instead, Widmore is keeping his plans under Jacob's patented veil of secrecy.

I wonder about these things as well and with other shows I'd expect answers. With Lost, I just expect to be surprised - and usually am! Last night was hard to watch. When Hurley started sobbing on the beach I bout had to walk away like Jack did.

Just think - in a little over two weeks - it will be over! yikes. least we get 4 and 1/2 hours of show minus commercials over that time period. :)

And Jack looked so miserable that I half expected him to walk straight out into the tide to call it quits!

It will be interesting to see what they can accomplish now that they've whittled the cast down to the bare minimum with only 3 episodes left. I hope they use Ben in the same way they did Sayid. Ben has been THE Lost villain for so long that it will be interesting to see if he sacrifices himself for good.

101. I think 3/4 of why people were wondering if they should root for Flocke
is that Jacob is kind of an asshole.

Establishing that Flocke is teh evil doesn't make Jacob any better. Or Widmore, for that matter.

114. Jin's accent was slipping last night - he sounded American
I imagine the pressure of drowning-acting wasn't helping.

Daniel Dae Kim .went to school at Haverford with a friend of mine, who said his real voice was all-American (I remember early on reading about Korean and Korean-American viewers complaining about the quality of the actor's Korean/Korean accent) He certainly didn't sound like English was a 2nd language last night, but I imagine the filming must have been a huge pain in the ass.

What's funny is that my friend who knows him from college has never actually SEEN him on TV, since he and his wife have chosen not to have a TV in the house to keep their kids away from it.

I think my friend heard about Kim being on "Lost" through the alumni grapevine, and he does know that "Lost" is a cultural phenomenom, even if he's never seen it (kind like me and "24").

74. Wait, so if Jack is right and notLocke can't kill them himself,
then why didn't he just let everybody get on the plane and blow up, since it would actually be Widmore who did the deed? I imagine that smoke monsters are as immune to explosions as they are to bullets, and if not, all he'd have to do is to make an excuse to be off of the plane when it's started.

76. Flocke needed Jack on the plane/sub as well
Flocke cleared out the plane too easily, so Jack had no reason to get on the plane too. When they got to the sub, it was more heavily defended, leading to Kate getting shot and Jack having to carry her onto the sub. Remember, he wasn't going to get on the sub either, till Kate got shot.

85. True, but that's a pretty convoluted plan.
If I were Locke, I'd gamble on Jack getting fragged while waving farewell rather than planting a bomb on Jack and hoping he won't discover it, then hoping that somebody is injured while boarding the sub so that Jack will actually get on the sub, then hoping that Jack actually does discover the bomb, because he needs somebody to try to disarm it and fail because it won't go off by itself. (Phew!)

95. good point, but it could be explained if Widmore and Flocke are on the same team
This may end up being like Revenge of the Sith where you find out Emperor Palpatine is playing both sides of the war, thereby allowing thousands of storm troopers and droids to die unnescessary deaths, ala setting up the Widmorons as sacrificial lambs to Flocke.

I do think that Flocke took the con man Sawyer for a massive long con. He played Sawyer like a fiddle, conviently stepping aside to allow Sawyer to make his plans, etc. I also think Flocke KNEW that someone, most likely Sawyer, wouldn't allow Jack to keep them from disarming the bomb. As the producers said in that article someone posted here, the last 10 episodes were one long con by Flocke to get all the Candidates into one confined space.

Edited on Wed May-05-10 09:54 AM by MilesColtrane
kill off Jin, Sun, and ZombieSayid in an exiting manner.

Getting down to the finale, they have to whittle down the candidates (and the number of actual characters).

I guess this was better than them getting shot on the dock or being smoke-monstered by Locke, but the episode didn't reveal anything about the characters we didn't already know or answer any questions.

89. I disagree
fake Locke wanted to kill them all so he can leave the island but since he can't do it himself he has to trick them into doing it. That would be near impossible if he were to take them out one by one. But get um all in a sub with a bomb where only Jack has figured out he can't kill um - and you end up with dead Sun, Jin, and Sayid, and probably Lapidis too.

Besides - these characters aren't gone. I highly suspect the parallel reality will be the one that continues while this version of Jack stays on the island as the new Jacob and fake Locke trapped as the new MIB in the island reality. just a guess though.

Next week's sounds like an all-important episode:

WHAT LIES AHEAD

Next Week Is Unlike Anything You've Seen on Lost Before.
Swear. And though we've all been told that none of the series regulars appear, that is actually not true. Spoiler Alert: You will see three of the main leads in a very surprising throwback moment that lets you know that the producers totally knew what they were doing as of season one. (Boo-ya!) Allison Janney guest stars, along with two other actors you know, and a few others you don't. You'll learn much much more about the history of the Island and the evil, and light, within. Pay close attention to every line Allison's character says and every line (or lack thereof) on her face. Oh, and DVR it. 'Cause you'll need to watch it twice.

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b179492_lost_redux_now_was_some_serious.html#ixzz0nAGgmrhe

Let's check that line again: "very surprising throwback moment that lets you know that the producers totally knew what they were doing as of season one". Believe it? Don't believe it? I can't wait to find out.

"Question: I’m confused: Why wasn’t Lapidus from Lost included in either your “confirmed fatalities” or “possible fatalities” count on your May Sweeps Scorecard? —Justin
Ausiello: Maybe it’s an oversight. Maybe it’s intentional."
