I'm a little bit proud of myself tonight..
Many years ago I took a nasty fall..fractured skull..nerve damage..make a long story short I ended up with a neuromuscular disorder. Very painful, and really limited me.

Time line...I spent the first couple years fighting it and doing everything I shouldn't have..which made it worse. Many surgeries later..

I finally gave into the docs...next couple years spent in a drug haze...decided..NO MORE DRUGS!!

Took a few years to get what little strength I have back...while learning to live "through" the pain.

So I wasn't able to really exercise, short of walking the dogs, or being in the pool in the summer and even that took to get to..

Tonight I decided to get on the treadmill...after years of no "real" exercise..

I walked 1.5 miles, at a 2.5 incline...the speed was 3.5..now I know that doesn't sound like much..but for me it was a huge victory!!

My son "cheered" me on the whole time...my husband sat worried and at the 1.5 said it was enough..I've been hospitalized many times for less than that.

So tonight..I'm feeling really good about myself. YAY ME!!!

2. It DOES sound like "much"
I don't know your age, but I'm guessing you've got at least a few years on you...I was a regular treadmill walker until back pain got in the way in recent months and I'm ready to get back ( no pun intended) to it. I'm well into my 50's, and in my experience, 3.5 MPH at that incline for that distance is not half bad for anyone , much less someone who has had the physical challenges you have. Be careful, but congratulations and keep at it, if it is, in fact ,safe to; which it seems like it is.

4. Thanks!..
I'll be 43 in July..so you don't have that many years on me.

I'm sorry about your back problems..they're the worst. Everything you do involves your back. I don't think you can truly understand back pain unless you've experienced it.

Good luck getting back to the treadmill..I'll be cheering for ya!

but great job! Hope you don't suffer from sore muscles.
Best way to beat them is to keep on exercising.

9. Congratulations
that is amazing.

My buddy recently destroyed his knee and shin and seeing him dealing with that in the early part has been horrible. I can't imagine what the rehab part will be.

Congratulations on your improvement. As they say, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step!
