70. +1 great band live back then, plus Huey is a very underrated harp player too
A lot of rockers play "at" the harmonica, but Huey genuinely knows what he's doing. The only time I saw them , for his encore, instead of saving some big commercial hit record for it, he came back out and said " I gotta do some blues before we leave here" and did a very creditable version of Little Walter's Juke. Not that a commercial hit would have been bad; I like lots of his stuff, but I thought it took some guts to finish the show that way.

79. My dad used to play the
harmonica when I was little. He also knew how to play an accordion, too. Most of what he played was by ear. He was from Newfoundland, so his music was old "down east" music, and a lot of Newfie songs. You're right--some people think they know how to play, but it's harder to stretch a full song with just a harmonica, unless they're also doing the singing as well.

97. You all have obviously exquisite musical taste, as demonstrated by agreeing with me
so wholeheartedly......and are thus SOMEWHAT excused ( for a limited time only) for any musical disagreements we may have, past, present or near future....( offer void if this includes your not liking Bruce Springsteen or The Clash)
P.S. I posted the studio version as opposed to one of the great live versions available because , although I usually like faster live versions ( which all of the ones of this that I've heard are), I actually think the slightly slower tempo on the studio version works better for this song.

58. And it was all due to Bonham's frustration with himself...
they were actually trying to work up Four Sticks. Bonham couldn't find a beat that satisfied him. Out of frustration, he started bashing out the opening to "You Keep A Knocking"
And then everything fell into place.

81. That one has some really well-crafted lyrics...
...a good, sturdy rock & roll song lets you LEAN INTO the lyrics when you sing them...I'm guessing the intent behind this one was to write a Chuck Berry-style tune, similar to "C'est La Vie (You Never Can Tell)"...

:toast:

Well, the bride looked a picture in the gown that her mama wore
When she was married herself nearly twenty-seven years before
She had to change the style a little but it looked just fine
They stayed up all night, but they got it finished just in time

Now on the arm of her daddy, she's a-walkin' down the aisle
And she catches my eye and she gives me a secret smile
Maybe it's too old-fashioned, but we once were close friends
Oh but the way that she looks today, she never could have then.

Well I can see her now in the tight blue jeans
Pumpin' all the money in the record machine
Spinnin' like a top, you shoulda seen her go
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll

Now her proud daddy only wanna give his little girl the best
And so he put down a grand on a cozy little lover's nest
You could've called the reception an unqualified success
At a flash hotel for a hundred and fifty guests

Take a look at the bridegroom smilin' pleased as pie
Shakin' hands all around with a glassy look in his eye
He got a real good job and his shirt and tie is nice
But I remember a time when she would never even look him twice

But I can see her now drinkin' with the boys
Breakin' their hearts like they were toys
She used to do the pony, she used to do the stroll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll

Well I can see her now with her headphones on
Jumpin' up and down to her favorite song
I still remember when she used to wanna make a lot of noise
Hoppin' and boppin' with the street corner boys
She used to love to party, she used to love to go
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll
Hey!

85. "So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star" by The Byrds.Nails the cynicism and crass
commercialism of the recording industry and they did it over 40 years ago in two minutes flat. The great South African trumpeter Hugh Masakela sat in for this tune and the screaming crowd was from a Monkees concert.

To answer your question this song most definitely did not suck shit.
