1. Actually, if you look at the scene where the boat is just about to go under, it stops.

Cameron wanted to leave the sinking somewhat ambiguous so he could go back and do a conspiracy film about the Titanic.

And there were polar bears who were knocked off the iceberg during the collision. And a smoke stack monster and a mysterious hatch... Then instead of hiring writers from the BBC, who can wrap up a series properly (Life on Mars & Robin Hood)they turned it into heaven's waiting room.
