"I have the P****, So I Make the Rules" T-Shirt Offends Judge in Lake County, CA
Lake county occasionally has interesting news.

Jennifer LaPenta did not even have to be in court the day she was held in contempt and jailed. The 20-year-old woman had left the gym and accompanied a friend to court when the judge spotted her t-shirt and flipped.

The shirt, which read "I have the p***y, so I make the rules," was apparently too offensive for Lake County Judge Helen Rozenberg, who "singled her out from the gallery and charged her with contempt of court" in early May, the Lake County News Sun reported.

LaPenta, who said she did not have time to change out of what she wore to the gym when she joined her friend in court, had to serve a 48-hour jail sentence for wearing the "offensive" t-shirt.

On Monday, Attorney Peter Kalagis asked Judge Rozenberg to clear LaPenta's record of the t-shirt charge, but the judge refused. Kalagis told the Chicago Tribune he plans to appeal.

1. The judge is out of line.
The t-shirt obviously is not what most would wear to court. However, the US Supremes held that a jacket which read "Fuck the Draft" was allowable under the First Amendment. The guy wore it to court during the 1960s ~~ hippie war protester ~~ and you all can imagine the reaction of that judge.

2. ACLU offered to help her fight this. She was originally jailed for 48 hours! WTF?
She wants her record expunged.

I thought it was Lake County California, but seems to be near Chicago, not that it matters.

This article says she was originally jailed for 48 hours...

"The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) wants to get involved. We're still investigating the issue," he added.

LaPenta, 20, accompanied a friend to appear before Judge Helen Rozenberg Monday wearing a T-shirt that read: "I have the p***y, so I make the rules."

The judge singled her out from the gallery and charged her with contempt of court. Rozenberg sentenced her to 48 hours in jail, but LaPenta was released Tuesday.

The hand-written order issued by the judge said LaPenta was in "direct criminal contempt" for "displaying herself in the front row wearing a shirt displaying obscene wording, and having been questioned regarding her apparel offering no excuse as to her displaying its content in open court."

4. I wouldn't be so vulgar if I were she
I'd put "I have a womb; so I make the rules." That wouldn't offend any judge except one who is blatantly sexist.

5. What's to say her p***y is on four legs? And a pic of a cat were on the shirt?
Doesn't that discriminate against cat people?

The t-shirt should have read: I AM the pussy, so I make the rules! (cat pic on shirt)

6. I've got three pussies - two females and a REALLY fat male.
So what's the problem, other than the fact that THEY make the rules?

8. It's the judge's courtroom, and that ain't "Fuck the Draft"
The contempt order says that t-shirt lady was held after being questioned about the shirt and offering no reason as to why she wore it.

18. It's hard to say what really happened without being there
I find it difficult to believe the judge would have issued a contempt citation merely for the t-shirt alone, and if that is the case the proper action should have been just to eject her from the courtroom rather than putting her in jail. It's possible she was questioned about it and got smartassed with the judge.

10. WTF is so obscene about pussy?
Its the greatest double entendre word in the english language.

Are you Being Served could not have survived for 500 years without its pussy jokes and they always meant her kitty.

War is obscene. Pussy is beautiful. I mean my kitty of course.

I remember the great Steve Martin punch line, "That cat was the best fuck I ever had."

11. It is amazing what people wear to court and to church these days
a lawyer friend said that judges really hated it but just succumbed to "Austen 3:16" tshirts because they just didn't have time to deal with it.

12. Somebody should have told her you can't wear whatever you please to court.
Edited on Tue May-25-10 07:01 PM by alphafemale
You probably shouldn't wear a T-shirt with writing of any kind.

And please tell me she didn't take her go-cup into the courtroom.

The courtroom is an oddball place. And yes the judge can place you in contempt of court for plenty of seemingly implausible reasons.
