3. Lady Gaga is great but...
I think it's a little early for the Madonna comparisons.

31. I agree - the names mentioned by the OP have been around for DECADES
and personally I think Lady GaGa's 2nd album was just a collection of stuff that didn't make the first album but wanted to get something out there right away to keep the gravy train rolling.

I'm not saying she doesn't have talented. I'd just like to see what she's doing 10 years from now. If she is still musically productive as she is today then perhaps I'll compare her to Madonna.

38. You're right
I think the second CD is mostly left over songs. In fact, "Telephone" is a song Gaga gave to Britney Spears but Britney ended up not using it on her "Circus" CD. "Bad Romance" is probably Lady Gaga's best song. "Telephone" and "Alejandro" are good. The rest of the CD, however, isn't very good.

5. As long as we all understand that she's successful & therefor needs to be torn down, it's okay
Cher's a fun entertainer, but not a composer. But yes, she'll probably end up in the Madonna/Annie Lennox category. Her music is danceable, her lyrics are thoughtfully ironic, and her self-marketing is brilliant. I'm not sure why that makes people want to throw a lot of harsh criticism her way. She certainly uses her celebrity to promote humanistic values and her music makes people happy.

Nor does she follow through with the exchange of photos that I came up with, all on my own initiative, I hasten to add.

33. Lady Gaga is PG-13 Radio Disney.
The critical acclaim she's getting is unbelieveable and undeserved.

And she couldn't hold Annie Lennox's microphone.

35. To some degree.
Every artist, writer, performer etc. is influenced by what came before. Still, I think the Gaga is far better today than Madonna was in the mid '80s.

Maybe Freddy Mercury, too.
