When was the last time you got pulled over or ticketed by a cop?
For me, it was in '92 and the cop was as wrong as he could be. I went to traffic school to get the points erased because I was so mad at his ineptness. I wanted and got my clean record back.

Since then, not even a close call.

I always make sure to check my safety features on the truck, and I never do anything even remotely weird in traffic. So far, it has worked.

I know luck has a lot to do with it too.

But I don't even want to give them a chance to get me, so I drive as cleanly as I know how to do.

How has it been for you all?

Is my luck exceptional? Or is it common to go 18 years without a glitch?

Hope I don't jinx myself by bringing this up.

23. That happened to me too, once a long time ago in Harper Woods
The funny thing is that I was riding a new bike because my previous one WAS stolen.

They stopped me when I had stopped at a stop sign, a couple of bigoted assholes.

It was fucking ridiculous,

4. I got pulled over around three months ago. No ticket, though. Last ticket I got
was probably 8 years ago for malfunctioning equipment (white bulbs in the turn signals rather than yellow...so stupid). $10 fine. Last speeding ticket *knocks wood* was 15 years ago or so? *knocks wood again*

Which is odd because I always speed.

*knocks wood again*

8. You just got out of the ticket because you've got such an awesome rack.
:P

Amazingly, I've never got a speeding ticket. I did get one for california rolling through a stop sign, which the cops around here really should be used to considering that they don't call it the california roll for nothing. Oh, and I got one in the mail for a toll violation, which was totally my fault because on the way back from the lego thing I forgot to have cash for the bridge. It wasn't bad- bridge toll of $4 and $25 for the fine- I thought it would be a lot worse.

26. You know there are places where going too slow
is every bit as dangerous as going too fast right? Impeding the flow of traffic and all that? I had a relative ticketed for going to slow on an interstate. Just sayin!

6. Pulled over a few weeks ago for a headlight out - no ticket or anything
Been approached a few times while geocaching, but it's usually an 'Is everything OK?' sort of contact. Last ticket (speeding) must have been '94 or so, but there have been a few very close calls since then.

I'm actually making more of an effort to drive and park legally these days, because I get the sense that a lot of governments are seeing traffic fines as a budget fix...

'Telephone' by Lady Gaga was on full-blast and I got a ticket for going 10 over, LOL.

Now every time that damn song comes on the radio the kids yell, "Slow down, mom!"

I try not to drive more than 5 mph over the speed limit and don't do anything that distracts me from driving (like eating, cell phone, or talking excessively with passengers)

12. hmmm I THINK my last ticket was for an unattended vehicle at the airport
but I get pulled over all the time, driving the POS vehicles we have. Once I got pulled over for no headlight - I hadn't noticed that it was out but knew immediately when he said it, that it had fallen off of the vehicle, I even knew where - he was laughing pretty hard by the time I explained about the ranch roads.

I used to drive a Nissan PU that had no driver's side door. Got pulled over for that a lot but the best one was getting it for no mirror instead of no door.

Border patrol follows me around all the time. I like to stop all of the sudden, get out and ask if I can help them.

Got pulled over one time for crossing the median, it was at a gas line crossing that everybody and their brother uses, but I forgot about the ticket and my license went into suspension. It was a nightmare straightening that one out with the insurance co. because the wording on the ticket said going wrong way on interstate, like I was cruising east in the westbound lane or something!

Most of the local highway patrol and sheriffs deputies know me because I always jump to go help get livestock off the roads, even when they aren't ours. I'm allowed to cross the median then!:eyes:

13. Working a split-shift in 1980 or -81...
.
...I fell asleep behind the wheel (stone-cold sober) at about 3 or 4 AM
coming home from my girlfriend's house. Totalled my car (sob -- a 1971
Dodge Charger) but all I got was a scratch on the forehead and a little
wobbly for 10-15 mins. Walked up the road about a mile to where I had seen
a farmhouse. Nice couple let me in, helped me get cleaned up, and I called
my GF, who came and picked me up and took me home. Checked me for a
concussion (she was an RN) and put me to bed.
.
Called the cops in the morning and they had already found my car. Arranged
to meet them at my parents' house and the cop said he just KNEW I must
have been drunk, but since he couldn't get me for being drunk, he was
gonna wallpaper me with tickets.
.
Had just helped an attorney friend move and he got me off for everything
but "Violation of Basic Speed Law" which (I think) was $25.
.
Nothing for 25 years 'til I was on my motorcycle bending over and squinting
down at my speedometer (dim backlight) and when I looked up the light was
changing. Dark -- so I could see there was no cross-traffic. I woulda had
to pull a semi-dangerous emergency stop, so instead I ran it about ONE-HALF
SECOND too late.
.
They got me.
.
I'm an excellent driver -- both normally AND in a Rainman sorta way. Used
to live 30 miles NW of town in the desert and drove I-10 daily -- and it
was usually at 90 in a 70 zone. Focused and alert. Careful and defensive.
Never a problem. Never caught.
.

19. Congrats on 18 years. I've been ticketed 3 times in the last ten years...
Once for speeding... which I totally deserved. I was towing a Seadoo in So. Cal. and got clocked doing 70. It's plainly marked just about everywhere that the speed limit for autos towing trailers is 55. That one was my fault all the way.

Once for not wearing a seatbelt. That one was iffy. They're building a new bridge into/out of the Big Bear Valley where I live, and one day I was caught in the stopped traffic while they were blasting. It took probably 20 minutes before we started rolling again, during which time I took my seat belt off because I got out of my Tahoe to smoke a cigarette. I had rolled about fifty yards at maybe ten miles an hour, and going around a corner there sat a CHP, looking right at me. I hadn't put the belt back on yet. My fault, I guess.

The last one was for crossing a double yellow line on my Harley, with my wife on the back. There's this area called the "Arctic Circle" that leads into the valley, and it's normally littered with falling rocks. So much so that 365 days a year, there is a snowplow that goes back and forth all day long scraping rocks that range in size from basketballs to baseballs off of the road. So, we come around this corner and in the middle of it there is gravel the size of marbles all over my side of the road. No problem, I pushed on the left handlebar and went around it, but in doing so I crossed the double yellow line. WHOOP WHOOP, here comes the CHP that was parked just out of my sight. I explained to him AND the judge that I was on a 700lb motorcycle with a passenger and the only way I could avoid a nasty spill was to do what I did, and that since there were no cars coming in the opposite direction, I put no one at risk, and in fact kept myself and my wife from probable serious injury. The chippie wrote me a ticket, and in court, even though the judge nodded positively and said "good move", he still fined me $140.

Good on you though...

21. A few months back I got pulled 3-4 times a week
By every kinda cop around here. They were looking for someone else who happens to be kin.

After the 4th or 5th time I put license and registration in a picture frame with "I am NOT -dude- !" written and just handed the frame to them. What sucks here is that cops seem rather bored so each time I'd get swarmed by 2-3 cars.

I'm sure glad I fly right these days lol

25. Never been ticketed but
I was once pulled over (this was about 10 years ago) for the suspicion of DUI..I wasn't I was terribly fatigued and nearly dozed off behind the wheel...It was only about 5 miles from my house. And once it was evident (almost immediately) that I was NOT drunk the cop had to let me go with just some advice on staying awake. I no longer take long car trips at night because of my fatigue issues, though they are better than they used to be since I've been treated for it.
