3. That song has some interesting interpretations
"Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio"

Marconi, one of the pioneers of commercialized radio.... The Mamba (not Mambo) is a deadly snake.... interesting..

The song kinda has a anti-corporatist feel.

4. Can you believe that came from something that grew out of one of rock's
truly great pioneering bands, Jefferson Airplane?

Talk about sequels that made the originals worse: Starship grew like a tumor out of the Airplane.

8. Grace & Jorma knock skulls during the ill-fated Airplane reunion album / tour...
...recounted in Jeff Tamarkin's excellent Airplane bio, "Got A Revolution"...

...Grace and Jorma had a difference of opinion during the recording sessions for the album...Grace, having been in "Starship," Jorma, having been on solo tours and in Hot Tuna...and her way of resolving the argument was to inform him that it had been a while since he'd been in a "successful rock band."

If DU ever posts a "Most Disappointing Reunion Album" poll, I'm at the front of the line with that JA disc. The only decent tracks were "Ice Age" and "Too Many Years," both of which Jorma had already recorded on his solo album "Too Hot To Handle."

11. Russ Heller is a strong, strong man.
Talk about hell...

Blender magazine contributor Russ Heller later set a record for listening to "We Built This City" continuously for 24 hours. He was encased in a Plexiglas booth—without earplugs—beginning Friday, October 13, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. at a Best Buy store in New York City.

A million times over "The surfin' bird" than 'we bilked this city.' (Thank you Creem Magazine for that pun/caption oh so long ago. It still helps.)

17. No. JA jumped the shark when Marty left the first time, on "Bark."
For my money, Jefferson Airplane went out in a blaze of glory on "Volunteers."

He's written a lot of great songs of course, but a whole heap of schmaltzy crap too.

"the city that rocks, the city that NEVER stops..."

Actual airchecks from KFRC 610, your Flower Power station, make the song suck far less than everybody thinks it does.

22. 'fell to his death'
I like that.

It's so much better than 'Augered in, Wrapped in Tinfoil, or jettisoned the horn rims..'

**personal note to AV. Evidence of Fripp G3:

Joe Satriani Red with Steve Vai Robert Fripp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3FUcSHeJJg

Don't blame the amateur digital camera guy for the fact Fripp was behind Satch (line of vision from camera) on his solo. I gotta wonder about the acoustics though, cause Joe's sound is louder than everybody.

Not that I mind, mind you.

The story of Vai and Satch could be a movie if they had a deep betrayal in their past. As different as they are musically they're two peas in a pod, they are.

23. It's one of those songs I have memorized note for note...
...and the bass on that one is just as important as the guitar. Joe kind of gets lost around the 4-5 minute mark and eventually "Red" just wanders off into the ether. I burned out on Vai...too much wank, not enough actual tunes underpinning the guitar face excursions, and the whole alien fuck eccentricities he wraps himself in aren't my cup of tea. Satriani's latest, "Live In Paris," on the other hand...that's my cup of tea. But yeah, they share a little of the best and worst. At least with Chickenfoot, Joe seems to have temporarily given up his own desire to "sing."
