denbot's a very very good guy. Ease off. It's a phrase in relatively common usage; one you might not like, but what the hell. Might as well take offense to people saying "Amen"

I'm a woman and I don't really like the phrase, but I'm not going to hop all over someone's case for it. Especially not in the Lounge.

11. Maybe we should just crown the Lakers right now
and skip all the unpleasantness. Why I bet Mr. Cobbie Brian could beat the Celtics all by himself. Probbably score a hundred points a nite. I sure would hate to be in Boston's shoes right now. I bet the Lakers already have the champaigne on ice.

15 total, including Minneapolis. Same organization. No different than the Dodgers moving to L.A. The city changes, but the organization kept the same ownership and roster before, during, and after the moves.

37. You must have missed Game 2
Bawhstin had every bad call go their way. Kobe's no-contact fifth foul (and even the fourth foul was questionable), Gasol's out-of-bounds call which wasn't reversed on the replay, all the arm-tangling against Fisher, Gasol, Kobe, etc, and on and on.

The refs suck on both ends, but it is far from favoring the Lakers. FAR from it. In the end, the bad calls cancel each other out, and David Stern gets the revenue he craves (the NBA is bleeding money these days).

Plus, don't blame the refs when Ray Allen goes 0-13 on 3 pointers. Or Fisher comes to life. :P

23. I wouldn't bet on this series even if I had lots of money to spare.
The Celtics are a veteran club with enough talented "big men" to dominate the paint, and Rajon Rondo is one of the better point guards in the east. Lots of depth and a killer instinct, and frankly had the team been healthy last year they might be working on a third consecutive championship right now.

And then we have the Lakers, with younger talented big men, veteran guards who play terrific defense and in the person of Kobe Bryant the most dangerous man in shorts. They too are incredibly deep and possess one of the legendary coaches in the history of the game.

Only a very partisan fan might think one of these teams might sweep the other. The Lakers have home court and accordingly, I predict they will win in seven games. But the Lakers may well fall, too, for the Celtics are playing very well and it's going to take extremely sound basketball to defeat them. This is an epic showdown between the two most storied franchises in the history of the game, and probably the two most talented teams today. It could go either way.

Of only one thing am I quite sure: I will not bet on this series. Far too close to call, I think. It's going to be very good basketball.

Edited on Thu Jun-10-10 01:15 PM by denbot
A Boston win returns this to the dogfight that most us sane people expected, a loss for the Celts puts their backs to the wall and changes the mental aspect from confidence to near desperation.

31. I agree. Tonight's game is a must-win for the C's.
You never want to go down 3-1 in a series.

Each of these teams has so many dangerous weapons that I would not assume either team "will" win tonight; there are too many variables. Boston has to win; they know it and the Lakers know it. We shall see if they do. These are veteran teams, and both of them possess the so-called "killer instinct."

34. Why not?
I mean, what else does L.A. have? Their last baseball championship was, hell, I don't know (do the Angels count?). Have the Kings ever won the Stanley Cup? And the less said about pro football, the better. Meanwhile, the University of Spoiled Children-er, U.S.C. is looking at sanctions thanks to the Pete Carroll era that will relegate the Trojans to conference also-rans for the rest of the decade.

Plus, when it's all said and done, Laker fans still live in . . . ugh, Los Angeles.

And we actually get some sunshine here. You know, that yellow orb in the sky? Portland: moldy, surly (must be the S.A.D.), and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. :boring:

People from Portland shouldn't mock L.A. for a lack of pro teams. That takes some audacity, LOL. All you have ever had are the Blazers, and they haven't won a title since Jimmy Carter was the White House - 1977! Say what you will about the Dodgers, at least they have won TWO World Series since then - and the Lakers have won NINE NBA titles since then.

So um... what was your point again?

Had to drive an hour to go skiing. Now I'll drive another hour and go to the beach. You drive an hour and you're . . . still in (ugh) L.A. But you have palm trees! Don't forget the palm trees. And LiLo. And Speidi. Color me . . . well, "jealous" isn't quite the word. When I get back from the beach, I think I'll go to the World's Greatest Book Store.
