OK, it's the start of the season, but did that Buzzard HAVE to follow me..

...back into town?

I must have looked pretty bad out there spinning against a 18 MPH headwind...Saw a Blue Heron, and a Buzzard. Pedalled back into town, stopped at the gas-and-gulp for a cold drink and who should fly overhead?

It wasn't the Heron.

First ride of the season, and I made 13 miles in 1:15...

4. Have a couple...

Today's ride was my Old-School Schwinn "Le Tour". "Swift" leather saddle, Conti tyres, Shimano "Megarange" freewheel (no cassette)and deraileur, and I just took the "Altus" stem shifters off and replaced them with vintage "333" shifters on the downtube.

The other bike is a late-60's early-70's Fuji "Special Road Racer" that's getting a new Sugino XD triple crank and the rest of it is straight SunTour. Fujita leather saddle, extended stem, Bontrager tyres.

Both bikes have Cinelli cork tape and carry Cateye "Astralle" cyclometers and SPD pedals.

And high-tech lighting, for after dark....

5. I hate those old school shifters

I always felt like I was going to take a digger whenever I shifted. I used to love to ride cross-country but then I bought a mountain bike (a trek) and loved it. Then that bike got stolen and I was out 1500 bucks, so I haven't biked in a long time. I'm thinking about getting another distance bike, maybe when I move I'll pick one up.

7. The new stuff is incredible.

I'm not using index shifting, but the new Shimano derailleur and SRAM chain really amazed me with how easy they shift. None of the clattering, grinding racket as the derailleur tries to force the chain from cog to cog.

Even though it was a "landmark" unit, I may have to replace the Suntour GT derailleur on the Fuji. Piss on noisy shifts!
