Keep me away from the furniture!!!

I just got a Porter Cable Profile Sander and it is great! It has all kinds of attachments to get into nooks and crannies. I'm sanding down a cobbler's bench now that must be 50 or 60 years old and when I get it clean I'm going to stain it. Then I have a chest to do and then I think I'll sand down the old pine kitchen cabinets...fun, fun, fun! :hi:

4. Raven you might want to try

denatured alcohol. On very old furniture they used shellac - varnish hadn't been invented yet.

Put some denatured alcohol in a empty coffee can, soak a steel wool pad, apply to the surface in a circular motion and then go with the grain of the wood. It removes all the dirt and old shellac without removing the 'patina' of the aged wood.

Love refinishing old stuff.
