2. No worries...
calculus really isn't too bad...honestly, i found it more intuitive than some of the more arcane portions of algebra
is this high school or college? and what level of calculus?

4. I've failed it twice before.
Yes, it's here in college. It's labeled as Calculus 1101.

6. ah, i see...

i can see why you're concerned about it now...
why do you have to take it again?

i guess my main piece of advice is that calc is not something that is very easy to figure out on your own--you need to find someone who is really good at it (i was lucky--my roomate was a math major, and calc was like arithmetic to him) and just study your ass off with them until you're literally dreaming about derivatives and integrations

yeah, but seriously, best of luck...

7. I need it to graduate next year.
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 06:15 PM by Triple H
It's required for a Geology (and every other science) Major.

If I get a "D," I'm going to petition to use that grade for my major (we can petition to use up to three "D's" for our acceptable grades)

11. I would have cried if I would have failed calculus
In fact, I cried that whole first term. I was suppose to be good at math, but it was much harder and faster paced than in high school. Most of the other students in the class had taken calculus in high school. The professor took pride in the fact that his grades were a perfect curve with most students getting C's and an equal number getting A's and F's. He believed that mathematics was a religion and those that got it were enlighted and those who didn't were lost. Anyway, I spent a couple hours per day on calculus homework. I had a tutor but ditched her because she was so far advanced that she wasn't much help on some of the basic stuff. I ended up with a C in the class even though I was afraid that I failed the course after the grueling 4+ hour final exam which was worth 40% of our grade and had no easy questions on it.

5. I wish you the best of luck
Math isn't my subject. It doesn't sound like it's yours either.
Get a tutor if you need to.

15. Math Isn't Bad
Depending on the teacher.

My HS Physics Teacher brought a pool table into the room once and taught us things the Math Teacher hadn't.

17. I needed a tutor for Calc I and II
The best I could do at the time was an honest C+. But the tutor helped me out a bunch and I recommend getting one at the first sign of trouble.

18. useless
I took it last year...teacher basically told the class that aside from teaching the stuff, it is rarely useful in professions like engineering these days...they have computer programs and all sorts of calculating tools that do the work for you...It may be neat to have the "oh cool...that's neat" factor...knowing how the process works, but in reality, there isn't much you will use it for on the job site. I liked learning it, but learning to balance your checkbook is really a much more valuable skill ;)
