Learn anything?

Have you thought about the scale of power outage hitting your area? Are you prepared for it? Flashlight on you at all times, battery powered radio on hand?
What will happen if the power is out for weeks? Are you ready?
It doesn't matter who is to blame when the power goes out, it matters that you are ready for it.No food in the house? WHOOPS. No way to cook the food you have? WHOOPS. You will be a victim only if you fail to prepare.
Do you have fire extinguishers for emergency use or even a well eqiuped first aid kit? From the looks of NYC, there is a good chance you will have to wait for help if you have trouble. This includes police services. Prepare for your own saftey.

Just some food for thought.

We have inverters, batteries (BIG ones),and a generator. We have candles, and use propane for cooking. During the winter, we heat with wood. We have a first aid kit, and know first aid/cpr. Our neighbor was medic in 'Nam, and has been a First Responder for several years. We have a large pond and several gallons of stored drinking water.

I'm on my way to self sufficient living.

I live in East Hartford, Connecticut, and spent all afternoon at work worried that I'd come home to a dark, sweltering apartment. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

On the other hand, parts of Hartford itself lost power. Both major hospitals, for example, now are running on generators. And parts of Tolland County, a half-hour to the northeast of me, also have no electricity. Suffice it to say, I consider myself quite fortunate!

It can happen again, in your town. I can't repeat it more! Prepare!

oh, and lots of water.

You really only need two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.
