It's just a freaking power outage!
Not the fall of the fucking Berlin Wall! Yet again the damn news media plays off the 'fears' of Americans.

2. Don't borrow trouble grandma used to say.
So far every thing is going good. Though I'm sure the media is hoping for riots and looting.

4. It's a power outage with conflicting stories as to cause.
It's a huge power outage affecting millions of people.

7. I dunno
Say the local power goes out for a while locally - not a major thing. But affecting NEW YORK CITY and other cities in different states and Canada - heck, the Tandem production system for my work is in Auburn Hills Michigan and they're running on Diesel. And there's conflicting reasons for the cause? I'd have to say this IS a major news item.

8. It is certainly a major news item
the problem lies in the need of the "news" media to fill 24 hour cable networks. I always wonder what else is happening that we're not hearing about when the media do this.

There could be babies down wells right this minute, and how would we ever know?!?

16. I do get tired of hearing the same stuff over and over
and honestly, I don't much give a crap what someone who was stuck in an elevator during the LAST blackout thinks.

11. Hmmmmmm.
Major power problem in a heavily populated area plus 9 Months causes a run on the overworked medical systems in the area?

There may be a pattern here....

12. Exactly. It's not that I don't care about talking about it.
But I swear they're whoring this story out like it's the freaking Apocalypse.

13. When the most interesting thing that the media has to report
is has-been actors runnning for CA governor, a power outage seems like the Apocalypse.

14. They have to make EVERY story the freaking Apocalypse.
It's all they know, and all they do. And who knows, they probably believe they'll be right about it someday.

15. bush is weakest right now on the economy
and this isn't going to help him. I don't like that millions of people are without power, but I'm glad this grey cloud has a silver lining. Plus bush blew it big time on his late, taped, ridiculous performance earlier. That counts for something, right?

17. Maybe but....
but the folks most pissed-off about the blackout, namely those caught in it -- really weren't watching Bush on TV at the time. And it looses something on the re-runs.

50 million people were hassled up the wah-zoo by this. Let's not chortle about it too much. Bad form.
