If I lived in on the east coast, I'd be 50 years old right now. I don't though, so
I'm still only 49.

Seems I'll be 49 for about two and a half more hours. I'll fight it all the way.

I had a young black man, one of the co-drivers on my OTR truck tell me that he thought I was 35-40 because I didn't act like a 50 year old. That was just the other day. I told him I loved him.

My body feels 50. Hell, my body feels older than that. I've had ACL reconstructs on both knees. One knee has been operated on 4 times. I'm pretty sure I have a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder, and I'm not sure at all what is going on with my right. All I know is that 4 years ago I could drive a golf ball 275+ yards without fail and now I'm wincing and my Big Bertha is laughing at my 210 yd drives.

My body says "hey, I need to pee soon" and then within minutes tells me "OH FUCK ME I NEED TO PEE NOW. Same with #2. "Gotta go soon" turns into "GOTTA GO NOW" in a matter of minutes.

The Sack? I'm as good as I once was... Once.

I'm not getting old. I'm not.

At any rate, I won't be FIFTY SOMETHING tomorrow, I'll only be 50.

3. Nobody ever talked about it before, but here's what happens to you in the 24 hours after you turn 50

.
Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.
.
Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either.
.
Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.
.
Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
.
In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.
.
No one expects you to run--anywhere.
.
People call at 9 pm and ask, "Did I wake you?"
.
People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
.
There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
.
Things you buy now won't wear out.
.
You can eat dinner at 4 P.M.
.
You enjoy hearing about other peoples operations.
.
You get into heated arguments about pension plans.
.
You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
.
You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
.
You sing along with elevator music.
.
Your eyes won't get much worse.
.
You know more about prescription drugs than your pharmacist.
.
Your memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

4. After I finished coughing... I couldn't help but laugh at this...
I have to save this for my best friends, some of whom will be following me over the hump within the next month or so.

Perfect.

7. My old man turns 50 next month and if I didn't love him...
I'd hate him. He looks like a kid. He runs for miles and miles. I can't find a damn gray hair on him!

Meanwhile I am plucking stray hairs from my chin and looking for the next uplifting bra experience. :D

Happy Birthday!

10. Happy birthday (a little late)
I turned 50 a few months ago, and could almost write the same things you did. The body ages, but the mind doesn't seem to. Hell, I still act like a five year old at times, and often act like I'm 18. 50 was a milestone that made me stop and think a little. Other than that I don't worry about aging too much. There's not a damn thing I can do about it, so why worry about it?
I trust you had a good day. You seem to take great joy in life.
