31. The electric bass guitar, natch.
Martins have been around since before pre-sliced bread. Since 1833, in fact. Well before bread-slicing machines.

Leo Fender sparked the Big Bang of Bass Guitar Creation with the release of the Fender Precision bass in 1951. Modern popular music could never have existed without it.

In 1969-70, the materials floating in that universe began to coaslesce into stars when Ron Wickersham founded Alembic in San Francisco. The first actual star was Alembic #1 (a/k/a "Mission Control" for its dozen-plus knobs) built for The Great Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane) in 1972.

All the rest has been mere sideways evolution since those two greatest of cosmic events. :)

rAmen.

32. I was actually thinking of MY Martin ... a 1999 HD28 LSV
And it IS the best thing since sliced bread.

I agree on the P-Bass, though. I had one (my son has it now) and I love it. You couldn't have rock and roll without it.

8. The dandylion weeder I found a few years back - unlike anything else.
I have absolutely no interest in eradicating the lawn of dandylions - they attract honeybees. I just can't stand them in the vegetable garden. This weeder is used while standing up. It looks like one of those aluminum adjustable canes you get in the drug store (which I am currently forced to use). It has a foot pedal at the bottom and four spikes below it. You position it over the plant, step on the pedal, and pull up. It gets the root WAY down deep. It was also made in the US.

13. Technically, it's already been invented.
A bread factory is basically one big machine that makes, slices and packages bread ;)

Maybe we should write to Zojirushi and get them to invent one :D

47. I usually buy three at a time too.
I am without now because I have to drive across the Bay Bridge to Ikea to buy some more, and I hate, I mean HATE driving across that particular bridge since it collapsed in the quake of '89. Scares the bejeezus out of me.

Thanks for your post. I had no clue it was available on Amazon (only available in-store at Ikea) until I searched for a picture for your thread. Cheers.
