You might have heard of it. The Kentucky Derby.

I can't pick horses worth a damn. WHO SHOULD I BET ON????

4. I bet on the grey mare, I bet on the bay.
If I'd a bet on ol' Stewball, I'd be a free man today.

Stewball

Oh Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine.
He never drank water, he always drank wine.

His bridle was silver, his mane it was gold.
And the worth of his saddle has never been told.

Oh the fairgrounds were crowded, and Stewball was there
But the betting was heavy on the bay and the mare.

And a-way up yonder, ahead of them all,
Came a-prancin' and a-dancin' my noble Stewball.

I bet on the grey mare, I bet on the bay
If I'd have bet on ol' Stewball, I'd be a free man today.

Oh the hoot owl, she hollers, and the turtle dove moans.
I'm a poor boy in trouble, I'm a long way from home.

Oh Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine.
He never drank water,he always drank wine.

:-)

3. Are you really going to bet?
Pick a mudder, to show. If you are serious? Pick him to show and win. Are you going? Good luck. DYODD :hi:

5. Going? Hell no!
The traffic will be ridiculous. People who live near the Downs rent their front yards out for parking: $100 a car.

Betting? Only if somebody gives me a good tip. Like I said, I can NOT pick horses worth a shit!

9. Pants On Fire

I'd go with a Dialed In, Pants on Fire exacta. I hope Rosie Napravnik becomes the first woman to win a derby. She rides POF.
Zito's horse won the Florida Derby but came home the last 3/8 in 38.2. Not exactly smoking but probably fast enough to beat this
mediocre bunch.

I always hate it when these rites of spring are ruined by crappy weather. :(

7. I went to a Derby once. Unfortunately the bourbon started flowing rather early.
Had great seats, too, because of a friend in the Saddlebred biz. We had a blast (as I recall) but I was too young to either bet well or enjoy it properly. I DO get to say I went, though, and it's on my list of actually fun things purported to be fun.

10. Good for you!
And yes, bourbon is essential for truly enjoying the Derby! Do not, however, under any circumstances, drink a mint julep. (a) It identifies you as a tourist (no real Kentuckian drinks those abominations!); (b) It's a waste of perfectly good bourbon!

16. You don't actually have to bet on any of the horses.
Just spend the money you save on more mint juleps.

He's at 20:1. I've read he'd be 40:1 without Borel on board.

21. As a fan of the race
I'd say place your money on either Uncle Mo (assuming he runs). Or whatever mount Calvin Bo-RAIL is on (I believe its a 30-1 shot this year). Calvin has won 3 or 4 of the last 5 Derby's.
One of these years, I have to come out and witness this spectacle.
