Taking a break from GD

Specifically, a thread I started to defend my home state. Yeah, I know, scary stuff :scared:

I kicked and rec'd just because it was an honest opinion being expressed, just like the grossed wife of the NYC rescue worker who is sick. We all need a place to talk.

Perhaps personal opinion discussions, just feelings instead of advocacy should not be there. Because if it is there, members will think the person is promoting and agenda.

Not supporting a Democratic candidate is against the rules, and while you were just speaking about how you felt, it was clearly interpreted that way. Then some posters did the 'ugh, Obama' thing and that got things heated up, as that is also without an opposing Democratic candidate to argue for, another violation.

So I guess I'm saying that the post was construed that way thus the flaming, although I can understand the feeling part of the question.

Maybe those kind of things can come here, although I'm not sure. General discussion is just as hot and heavy politically as LBN, so whatever is posted there can get savaged, treated as dangerous or emotional subjects .

Sometimes it does no good, it's hard to check to see what someone has added to your comment and find that you are getting flamed, assumptions being made on your general stupidity or whatever.

There is a place of origin bias whichI mention it when I see it and remind people to not jump on oppressed Democrats in red states.

Sometimes it feels like you're folding yourself in a pretzel, trying to write something that will be understood by all types of posters. We don't know if we're being played by freepers, either.

We'll fight it out eventually, no harm taking a break.

I just checked "My DU" a few minutes ago and saw a reply has been posted to my last post in the argument, but I'm not even looking at it. I'll leave it until tomorrow, when I'm not tired from a long day, in addition to the draining that arguing does. Better to be thinking clearly instead of reacting.

Say, have you looked through that site on near deaths any more? I know it's a huge site and way too much to read, but it's cool to browse, too :)

And I know I won't be replying to the one that's been arguing with me. It's all about the argument and making me say something I'd regret. So, I won't say anything. I hope he's happy about that...

and agreed with you. Read some of the replies and saw a typical gd mess. After reading this, I went back over and gave it a k/r.

I'm really floored by the overall positive response I've gotten, too. That was my first major thread to GD (I had another one last year, posted as a joke about ordering pizza while on unemployment) and I think I'm still in a daze to some extent. 200 posts and counting! Woohoo! :D

due to a rant I posted on Friday to try and get people to stop broadbrushing us. The response was much better than I'd thought, though there are still a handful of haters continuing to hate, and not accepting any of our arguments countering them.

Thankfully, it wasn't as stressful as it could have been, but I still had to take a break late into the evening ;)

They think that their opinion is the only correct opinion. Too bad that they are opining about people on a MESSAGE BOARD.

I wish I was just 1/2 as smart, considerate and perfect as many in GD are.
