I need cat advice...my cat Melanie, 16, threw up yesterday morning...
a few times, which happens. But now she hasn't eaten since, and is very lethargic. What she's doing now is worrisome, she lies by the water bowl with her head over it, and part in it, and will drink from time to time. Her breathing seems ok, but she wants to be left alone. She has never been diagnosed with any kidney problems, but what she's doing now, as I said, is worrisome. Her vet has gone for the day, and I have asked for recommendations of vets open on Sunday, but haven't heard back. Has anyone ever had their cat do this? She also likes sleeping on the tile in the kitchen when she's not by the bowl, not on the carpet, so she's obviously trying to feel cooler. Thanks.

1. Get her to a vet ASAP, or as around to see if there's an emergancy vet somewhere-

But it sounds like she has a high fever, so it could be a bad infection, not just a weak kidney issue. If she wants to be left alone, she's hurting bad, and if she's by the water dish, she knows she's getting dehydrated.
She needs to see a vet quickly.

2. The following site has thorough info about cat health. You may also

want to ask this question of DU Pet Forum. I know that it's very dangerous for cats to go without food for over 48 hours. My mom's kitty was in a similar state once and I got him to eat by smearing a bit of Wellness Chicken
Vibes to your furbaby.

4. I'd bring her
to an emergency vet too. It's good that she is still drinking though. Could she have eaten something, poisonous plant or something that made her sick? Chicken baby food will sometimes tempt their appetites when all else fails. Maybe offer her some grass? Wish I could be more helpful. Hope she recovers quickly.

5. Find an ER Vet--STAT!
That is a very sick kitty to be acting that way. Find an emergency vet now, because if your cat is that sick, waiting through the weekend might well kill her. I've seen it happen the way you describe, and Mort died overnight. Come to find out, his system had shut down and he could have been saved had he been taken in when he first started acting sick...

Good luck to you and your kitty.

7. Is there no emergency vet near you, or not so near?
Call every vet in the phone book, maybe one will have a message saying in case of emergency what you should do. In our area, it is information on en emergency 24 hour hospital about 30 miles away. But it is important do find a vet before Monday.

8. get to the emergency vet
Try googling emergency vet in your general area if you don't already know of one. Your kitty is displaying acute symptoms and needs to be seen right away.
