I have people I can call, but no one I care to call and tell 'em, hey, you're my plan B for the evening. Bah.

8. My date has a sick kid. It's not the sort of thing I'd be willing to cut her scalp off for.
I'm worried for you. You really need to work out these violent impulses.

9. Okay. I'm going to trust that was a joke and you actually DID understand that I meant the tickets.
But if she stands you up again, use a REALLY sharp knife.

5. Meh, I'll enjoy the play, but I prefer to experience live performances w/ a friend
It's not like a movie. the human element makes a difference.

You idiot, I said element, not elephant. Geeze

3. Have kids?
Is the play age-appropriate? Would the oldest enjoy it?

It's a bonding moment.

Nope, I'm stuck waiting by the phone to see if anyone RSVPs. Hate this.

7. No, I've called all my plan B-able friends. But we're talking less than 2 hour lead in.
Downside of bachelorhood, I guess. I mean, the trade up is that if I was married or attached at this point in my life, I'd probably be miserable rather than inconvenienced. It's the lesser of two evils. Right now I blame all my platonic female friends from 15 years ago who had to go and get married and ruin my throw-down plans for tonight. Shit, you'd think at least one of 'em would've gotten divorced and become desperate by now. But you just can't count on people to be thoughtful like that these days.

I should write a Jackson Brown song about this.

11. Ah, that's right. Short lead time.
Go to the play. Then write the song.

Something about the empty seat.

Or better yet, being able to choose between two seats!

Call it "Lucky Enough."

It's sure to be a classic.

16. It's called "Crave". It's readers' theatre--four voice in a post apocalyptic world
Edited on Sat May-28-11 07:16 PM by Bucky
Not unlike my social life apparently.

22. The play was INTENSE. It only ran about 50 minutes. I got the description a little wrong.
It was four people just sitting onstage, facing the aud, with slightly overlapping monologues. They were talking all the crazy shit that goes on in your head when you're berating yourself. All that self-critical inner voice that ends up sabotaging your relationships and then haunts you while try dating someone else, plus sexual hang ups, plus disturbing memories from teh characters' past, plus the things you blurt out while having that break up conversation outside his apartment at 3 in the morning cause you just can't let it go.

The site ==> http://catastrophictheatre.com/shows/crave

The kicker was after the show was over and we went outside and browsed through the program. Apparently the playwright, Sarah Kane, killed herself at the age of 28 in 1999. She's only now getting critical recognition from the theatrical press that considered her too chaotic in the 90s. Her grasp of inner voice and mid-breakup confessional dialog & monologue is captivating & precise--ruthless even. My friend, Tee X, was so flipped out we had to go and do something fun just to give our brains time to process it. Very, very intense. Glad I went. Gladder I didn't go alone.

This is her. And this is her wikipedia page.

17. Okay, happy ending. My friend, let's call her "Tee X", just got a sitter for her sick kid
So I'm not sitting alone in the theatre now. My next attempt was going to go check Craigslist. Guess I won't be that desperate now.

Honestly, I could just scalp that girl....

Edited on Sat May-28-11 09:56 PM by lunatica
You won't be out the money and two other people will be happy. Who knows, someone there might have a nice couple they know who would love the tickets.
