This industrial-strength antibiotic is kicking the shit out of me.
I have a root canaled tooth that developed an abscess. Before the dentist can do anything about it, we have to get the infection under control. Apparently, the little bastards causing the infection are pretty persistent, so I have to use a drug called clindamycin hcl. It's rough on the digestion because it also kills necessary bacteria in the gut. It also can cause heartburn and I have to make sure I am upright for 15 minutes after taking it. I'm glad I only have one left.

No greater point here. Just venting.

1. That apple settled my stomach a little.
Just like they did when I got sick in Austria in 1993.

2. I took the last one an hour ago.
Friday, I see the dentist for an evaluation. I've got two dodgy teeth left on the left side which have been prepared for crowns. He's take all three and graft them. In six months, he'll install three implants and six months after that my regular dentist will make a permanent denture for the lower left side.

3. My dear Deep13...
I am really sorry to hear about all this.

But you must take care of it, or it will cause much worse trouble down the road.

Vent all you want! We're here for you...

4. I feel your pain...literally. I'm on the same antibiotic.
Had oral surgery Friday. My body hates antibiotics and doesn't like this one (I'm penecillin allergic). Thank heaven I finish tomorrow. I've got the same problems, and I smell wierd, my skin hurts (like sunburn) and I have a persistent headache.

Eat yogurt with live cultures. It'll help the gut. And drink as much water as you can stand. I've been chewing Tums at night but wonder if it's a good idea.

Hang in there; we'll get this under control!

5. I was on a 10 day course of cefuroxime recently.
Oy gevalt. That was not pleaseant. Not as bad as what the drinkable CT contrast did to me, but still... Had to stay near the john...

7. No matter what though...
...unless you are deathly ill, finish the course.

The age of antibiotics may come to an end because people do not complete the full course.

9. Literally AND figuratively?
Damn, that sucks. My mom just went through a bout of c-diff, so I can sympathize quite a bit.

12. I am sorry for you.
I am waiting for a call from the oral surgeon. I am having a root canal soon. My regular dentist warned me that he would put me on an antibiotic before doing the work. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

Feel better soon.

13. I wonder if Ciprofloxacin would have worked as well to defeat the infection.
Edited on Thu Jun-02-11 12:31 AM by Lasher
I'm taking Ciprofloxacin HCL 750 MG 2XD for 8 weeks for a foot infection, and so far it hasn't been as unpleasant for me as Clindamycin seems to have been for you. No nausea, heartburn or digestive problems anyway.

I realize this is academic now since you've taken your last pill.
