if he was asked politely twice to 'knock it off' and he said 'fuck off' to both requests (including the owner) well not much can be done about that.

I don't think his posts had any weight or merit, nor were they the result of some kind of inner, super-deep insight that the rest of can only dream about.

I think he posted intentionally nonsensical shit in an effort to appear to be the deeply thoughtful, outside-thinker he wanted us to think he was. Like Chance the Gardener, except Chance came by it honestly.

25. Maybe, but if his posts were such unequivocal nuts & nonsense,
it doesn't seem like they would have generated such
an array of responses from folks here, pro & con.
I always thought his main point
was that people often have automatic black-and-white responses
based on attitudes and impulses that they aren't
aware of, and that the truth is more subtle, complex, and
troublesome. That kind of thinking might not be popular on a
partisan political board where opinions are often quick &
strong & fixed. Me, I simply felt a kinship with
his oddness & (usually) gentle contrariness. I don't
pretend to know what he meant all the time, but when I
didn't I chalked it up to my inability to follow rather than his
inability to express himself. I suspected clarity even
when I couldn't find it. Maybe I was too generous or
naive. I felt like I could have had an interesting conversation
with him face-to-face, but of course I could have been wrong.
Again, it may be my own failing, but there aren't that
many online people I would really be curious to meet in person.
He was one. Peace.

48. Of course not.
That's the answer to your first question.

"Should nuts be allowed to post?"

Well, yeah, I suppose, as long as they don't break any rules. Why not?

"how do we determine "nuts"?"

Simple. See post # 14 for a perfect example of nuts. And yes, #14 is being facetious. If a person is well and truly nuts, it doesn't take long for it to come out.

Anyone who is willing to abide by the rules set up by the owners of this website is free to post anything they wish. No one is obligated to read it nor are they required to respond and we all have the Hide Thread option as well as the Ignore member option.. For the record, I never ONCE alerted on anything Random Thoughts said (though a post or two of mine in response to his nonsense were deleted) and I quite frankly didn't give two shits about the guy. He was a nut, as far as I was concerned and I have enough nuts to deal with in real life. There are plenty of perfectly rational, lucid and sane people that post regularly on DU that I have become friendly with over the years. Why on earth would I want to concern myself with a person CLEARLY not dealing in the same reality as I am? It's like trying to have a rational discussion with someone who actually thinks some nefarious "corporate bastards" (from a while ago, btw on a thread here in the Lounge) are contemplating harvesting the water found on the moon and transporting it back here to Earth to sell.

It's a waste of time, and I just don't have the patience for such nonsense anymore.

Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 08:20 AM by MrScorpio
And is responsible for the degradation of glycosaminoglycans such as heparan, dermatan, and chondroitin sulfates.

Deficiency of β-glucuronidase in humans and in the B6 mouse strain described previously causes glycosaminoglycan accumulation and lysosomal distention, resulting in a progressive multisystem degenerative disease.

Both humans and mice lacking β-glucuronidase suffer from decreased mobility, mental retardation, compromised functioning of most organs, and decreased life span.

I have a long way to and I'm due pop and burger per diem.

but he was unusual and had the remarkable ability to loose associate, whether as a symptom or by artifice. He seemed to be getting more and more paranoid, which worried me a bit, and his flameout might have been inevitable. Or, he got tired of the performance and went out in a blaze of beer and travel money.

Or a bar with a single quarter(s) table. And he is the guy every one of the regulars has recognized as being a fucking nutcase. The only reason you noticed him, is because he was winning using flash and ridiculous strategy for 3 or 4 games, being loud and incoherent before my name or quarters came up and I beat his ass like it was tied to a post, shut him up and then you and I had a pleasant game or two before I left and gave you the table.

THAT'S why you wonder if you have seen him in a pool hall. He is that guy. The one before me.

He would be too busy hustling his game. We would have a kept a polite, professional distance from each other, I think.

but, I can see him working his shtick (stick) at another table . . . anything is possible.

Haven't shot pool in many years.

56. Well, trust me, I've seen his type before.
And I've played him, or those like him, many MANY times. They impress everyone. They shoot well. Make impressive shots. Nice thin cuts and hard banks. They make comments on the news that are just....so...OUT there. Or they quote obscure lyrics from the 60's. And just as they are convinced they have everyone in the place, be it a hall or a bar, intimidated, I clean his clock.

Yes, he "worked" the same tables. So did I. It's just that I was quiet, to the point, polite and lucid.

And I still beat his (or the likes of his) ass. Every time.

Whether or not he was a pool player or a hustler or whatever is beside the point. He's gone and I say, Goodbye to bad rubbish.

And FWIW, I never was a hustler, or anything of the sort. I don't bet or gamble on pool. I just enjoyed, and still do, beating the crap out of strangers in a game of 8-ball in bars and halls who think they have it going on. Most that think that way, don't. Including me. I know my limitations as well as my abilities.

57. yes, I was never a serious hustler and I never handled the money
I had a partner who handled that end of it and gave me a cut at the end of the night. I never knew (never wanted to know) what the bet was and never made side bets on single shots. I just shot pool.

and you are right, his type was in the pool halls and that is the point I am trying to make . . .

a lot of people here see him as a rarity

you and I know better.

There was always ONE in every pool hall and juke joint.

and yes, there were fun to take down.

45. As I said elsewhere, the responses are a litmus test IMO
Just as Monty Python's "Holy Grail" is a test of sorts. You either get it or you don't, and even if you get it, you don't quite get it.

I just know that I'd rather be one who tries to get it than with those who suspect some kind of con.

59. Some may see it as "loose associate"
Some may validly see it as "loose associate" while others may (just as validly) see it simply as nonsense. I don't really perceive criticism of that as negativity...

67. If I told you you were talking nonsense you wouldn't think it negative?
I think you're supposing he could help it and I'm supposing he couldn't, and we'll never know. And I know it rubbed some the wrong way. He sure as heck has gotten us having some interesting conversations, though.

42. I found his presence strangely comforting
We're here because the world is cooking, the economy crumbling, and the president capitulating, and amid all the chaos, there's this weird motherfucker gently rambling.

He was like the Tom Bombadil of DU.

46. nice
I interpreted his stuff to mean that in spite of all the fuss and furor in the world from those who are trying to take away the dignity and comfort of daily life, there is a constant. We are due something. Might as well be beer and travel money and many experiences.

55. I for one will miss him
No, he did not always make sense. But i spent the last half of the 60s and the first half of the 70s in a hallucinagen induced fog so crazy and loose associations do not particularly bother me. Telling Skinner to fuck off was not a nice thing to do. I do however devoutly believe that we all are due beer and travel money.

63. Has anybody in the whole ancient history of DU
ordered up a pizza & then had two long-ass threads
about him/her that went on & on unlocked with only one
deleted post between them? Folks can't stop talkin' about a
strange cat, even if many got nothin' good to say. I
hope he's enjoying this, because I believe that whatever
he was up to, conman, homemade linguist, loon, trickster, or
lost wandering soul, he was often having a better time
than most. Tip of the hat, RT.

77. What he did in order to get tombstoned speaks for itself.
It seems to me that most reasonable people would be able to discern that the actions that got him tombstoned were pointless (unless, I guess, maybe they made him feel better somehow) and unproductive and would result in getting tombstoned.

The first post of his I ever read got me pretty concerned for him:

"If all someone knew about the spiritual was the most often told story, like the beginning stories.

And they were in terrible confusion, being distracted or confused,
And they were trying to be seen,
where would you find them."

I hope he is ok.

78. I also see a beauty in that:
"If all someone knew about the spiritual was the most often told story, like the beginning stories.

And they were in terrible confusion, being distracted or confused,
And they were trying to be seen,
where would you find them."

Then again, I see a circumstantial beauty in "Fuck off."

We both hope he is OK.

...that he omit his sig line. He did that. In what is said to be his last post before TS.

85. My last word on Random Thoughts... random
Someone once posted that his words were gibberish. The post was deleted, but......
I wrote a quick reply....something rare for me to get into...and it was just a stream of words.
Or was it? I made sense to me...I could never compare myself to Random Thoughts.

My reply:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=9493263&mesg_id=9493421

Although I didn't post the song link:

Taste and Try Before You Buy-Savoy Brown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNyzrOM5RR4

I miss Random Thoughts.
I think he was a free spirit....
Different....a wordsmith..
They are rare....
Not always understood....but very cool.

It's easy to put others down when they are different.

I will always believe that he was due beer, travel money and many experiences.
I hope it comes soon.....

I wish him peace & joy as well~

peace~
