Where do you find out about the most interesting books to buy? I used
to work at an airport bookstore and they only carry bestsellers so that was great. Next I'd look at the recommendations from the big box bookstore. But I don't have a car anymore. So I'm going to have to walk more frequently to the library or to a second hand store nearby. Do you look for positive reviews on the inside cover pages? Is there a website you go to? What works for you?

1. The library
I'd need an extra 5 lifetimes just to read the books I've seen and wanted to read, never mind the ones I will find.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like buying books unless it's a reference that I'd refer to frequently.

I have no problem finding books I want to read; I just go to shelf of the topic of my interest.

2. Amazon
I read the reviews on Amazon and there is also a site called
Shelfari that is good for finding recommendations. Sometimes in a big bookstore I see good new titles and make notes and then look for them at the library.

5. I get newsletters from abebooks.com, and powells

abebooks has the most unusual books anywhere. They post some very provocative lists! Example:
Click here: AbeBooks: Because You Read: Our Customers Recommend the Bleakest Books

powells is the biggest bookstore in the country, open 24 hours a day, all year. It's an institution in Portland; takes up a whole city block, several floors. Their recommendations are useful. New and used.
