1. Marvin's Room. About a woman taking care of an sick parent. At one point in the film
she points out that she has had a full life despite never having had a family of her own because she's experience so many kinds of love.

I think that is so true. Traditionally, with or without a family of their own, women go through so many more life phases, changes and experiences than men (not so true in the last few years). Men face a big change when they retire and have a hard time of it because they have not been through as much as their wives. I think they have more stressful lives with all that testosterone too.

2. Years ago, I read one article saying it's in our genes.
Men, as they get older, become more of a liability in combat then an asset while older women are still useful in food gathering, helping to raise children and teaching young women mothering skills.

3. That makes sense too. Except that men can still father children well into old age.

5. The X and Y chromosomes are part of the problem.
Men are afflicted more often than women by diseases arising from recessive genes on the X chromosome. That's because women have two X chromosomes, and it's unlikely that both copies of a gene will be faulty.

Men have only one X chromosome; if it carries a faulty gene, the man will have the disease.
