1. I had a Swedish uncle who thought these were great. I never asked for any. Are they good, Kali?

4. I love them.
much better than sardines. salty and smokey and a little oily - great with plain old saltine crackers.

when I was a kid they were an occasional treat, and I remember the crown prince brand going for about 60 cents a can. now they are almost $3. A while back, I found these in a local discount store for $1, same weight, maybe a touch more water.

Bought 5 of them as I wasn't sure how awful they would be, but they were fine. 4 in the house - we each had a can for a snack one day and I stuck the 5th away and then couldn't find it (grown male offspring, yes I hide food). Found it last night and just had it for my lunch. tee hee

the main drawback is fish-breath and sudden pet attention - way stinkier than a can of tuna:rofl:

3. I could not open that tin in my house
without being beset by cats. It would look like one of those nature shows where a pride of lions devours a wildebeest.

6. yes, they come out of the woodwork
they mostly hear it before they smell it I think, but if they miss the opening the smell will certainly bring them

7. I think they can hear you thinking about opening it
before you even do it.

Then they descend, and they're all, "Oooh, can I have some, can I, can I, can I, huh, please, please, I want some now, now, now!"

And you have to lock yourself in the bathroom in order to eat any yourself.

9. I remember my dad eating those
straight out of the can. With a cold can of Hamm's sometimes in hot weather. I think my cat would lose his marbles if a can of these were opened in my apartment.

But there's something about a real kipper with breakfast.

13. Yup, King Oscar Kipper Snacks. Ja, sure.
Used to eat them all the time when we were kids. That was before we got a cat.

15. Yum.
... and reading the posts on this thread makes me glad I don't have cats, so I can still eat them. My dogs would dearly love them, but they don't prevent me from eating them.

17. Oh yes.
Always in our house when I was growing up. (My people are from North Dakota...Swedish, German and Bohemian, as in Bohemia, extraction.) Major treat.
We had cats, but they knew better than to challenge us.

Permeated the house all day, of course!
