Kennel Cough
I am just newly introduced to this as my dear PomGrandchild is having troubles now.

He's always snorted once in a while but... it seems since he went to a dog park he has been really affected by this as his buddies that went there are in the same shape.

I did a wee bit of research, not much so far, but what I have learned so far is Chicken Soup! is good and a bit of honey to soothe the throat, and VitC, among other things as an alternate to antibiotics.

Just wondering if others here have any input.

sweetest little fucking dog in all known and unknown universes, that's our Moosey

1. I think they get over it in a couple of weeks, as we do common colds

but if it seems to get worse- take Moosey to the veterinarian. My old dog had it after going to the kennel when we went back east. I thought she had something stuck in her throat. Unless the dog gets a secondary bacterial infection, antibiotics don't help since kennel cough is caused by a virus.

On edit- I read that kennel cough can be a viral or a bacterial infection, but antibiotics usually aren't needed.
Here is a good article-

4. There is a vaccine for it. We always get it for our dogs.
It is called "bordatella" vaccine. Bordatella is highly contagious. If your dog is going to a dog park a lot, you might want to ask your vet if he/she would recommend it.

5. bordatella vaccine

Is bordatella vaccine even necessary? Brining in my pup for his second set of shots on Tuesday, but I hear from some people that it is completely unnecessary, so did my vet. What do you recommend? Just want a second opinion.

And Ive been researching on this topic but cant find a true answer if its necessary.

6. That does not always work.
I had to board my Rottie at the vet. And they would not take her without the bordatella vaccine. OK, so I got it for her. But when I got her home, she had kennel cough despite the vaccine. The cough went away in about a week. But I do not trust that vaccine because it did not work on my dog.

7. My dog Cindy had it when she was adopted from the shelter
She was an eight week old puppy then, but I remember the vet prescribing Turbogesic (liquid) and Interferon. I think she gave Cindy Interferon injections...it was almost 9 years ago. Hope your pup feels better soon.
