New Orleans "I Hope This Works Better Than Most Shit Around Here Does" Post
Hi Lounge Lizards! :hi:

Greetings from an undisclosed location in The French Quaarter!:bounce:

This is the first time I've been able to access intermittent wi-fi, which is apparently a shy creature on the Gulf Coast and in NO. I had to check in though to see how the daffy bastid was doing (YAY Rehab! Let's make it work this time) and whether GD has gotten any crazier in the wake of some kind of vote or something I hear is going on out there in the non-eating and drinking and music and heat and beach and lazing around world. :toast:

Affectionate howdies to all. Lord knows when I'll find working wi-fi again so I might not be back til Monday. One of the things I love about this city is that having something work relaibly is not high on the list of anybody's priorities. We'll go have a drink until it does.

Y'all keep cool. Remember, no matter what happens, it ain't your fault.

1. when you've got a PoBoy and an Abita, you dont really need the internet
I had a couple of the Abita SOS's yesterday, yum.

I'm over in Mobile, waiting to board a ship for a few weeks. If I had more time and some BEER AND TRAVEL MONEY, I'd run over there and join you for a hurricane, handgrenade, and a muffaleta from Central.

I'm going for an Abita Amber later and will toast your health and safe journey, and Random Thoughts, as I spend my travel money on beer. I hate those damn hand grenades, though!

Maybe a drive-through daquiri shop later.

6. they travel
at least if you get them at Central. The only uncured/unaged item is the bread. The meats and the olives are cured, and the cheese is aged, so not a lot to go bad there.

3. It's a laid-back, devil-may-care city, nola, as you already know. :)
There's NOTHING like the French Quarter. You shouldn't have any trouble finding good food anywhere there. I'm glad you're enjoying your visit.

I would have loved to have met up with you, but I've been having to take care of my mom since she sprained her ankle & pretty much lost her mobility.

If there's a next time, & I'm sure there will, let me know & we'll get together!

:hi:

4. Good to see you!
Enjoy yourself, I am somewhat jealous - never been to NO, but not sure I could handle the climate this time of year?

Someday. (and I take it you have seen updates and/or a few posts hear and there from the DB -daffy bastid - he really ought to change to that username if there is ever another amnesty)

9. It's oddly cool. Only high 80s low 90s. But the monsoons have hit.
But what the hell. I can duck in anywhere for a drink or a bite, and they'll be wonderful. Yep, you should come. And I do believe it'll be here, ready to part you from your hard earned pay and make you do things you won't want to admit and love every minute of it. These people are as hard as palmetto bugs to squash. I'm proud to call them mine.

5. Quarter resident Laurence Fishburne nailed it during one of those Katrina relief concerts
"New Orleans was the first American city to build an opera house, and the last to build a sanitary sewer system."

8. Amen and amen! I've discovered the cell phome works if I sit by a window and face east
which, of course, is where the West Bank is. If you know the place you'll get it. I'm on pirated wi-fi right now and there are urban flooding warnings out. I'm both hot and wet and it has nothing to do with sex. Son as I get in under the air conditioning I'm going to be freezing. Just ate a shrimp po boy and bought a painting off the fence at Jackson Square.

Tomorrow, Drago's char-broiled oysters and a visit to my favorite voodoo place, and a few choice book stores and galleries. And a little drinkin' come evenin'.

Read that the Daffy Bastid is back in rehab. Bless him! And all y'all.
