The Silliest Looking After-Market Auto Add-On Is...
Forget the fuzzy dice from the rearview mirror.
Never mind the tassles around the interior.
Ignore the neon-lighted licence plate frames.

Maybe this is old news for folks who keep up with these things... but yesterday (for the first time) I saw the funniest-looking, and absolutely the most silly after-market automotive add-on.

I'm at a loss to accurately describe it.

They are free-spinning hubcaps that CONTINUE TO ROTATE after the car stops. Also, when the car starts to roll again, the hubcaps kind of "slip" and don't immediately rotate at the same speed as the tires do.

Well... maybe I'm being too harsh.

At LEAST it's a SILENT way for the driver to attract the attention of onlookers.

1. People Will Take Them Off.......
....as soon as they get their first ticket for not coming to a complete stop. Try argueing with a cop who claims that your car didn't stop because he saw the wheels still turning.

2. Those things are distracting as hell!
On a bright sunny day, they pickup the sunlight really well. I guess that's the point of them, but they can be a distraction at times.

I'm not really one to call attention to myself, so I'd never put them on my car, but, whatever floats your boat.

They cost $49.95 for a set for 14-inch wheels, or $59.95 for 15-inchers.

Just after I got back from Germany a friend and I were in an auto parts store and one of these happened to catch my eye. I asked my frined if this was what I thought it was and he said yes.

Unbelieveable.

Or Fart Tube or whatever? That thing that makes your Kia sound like a demented chainsaw?

And you ever notice how the adolescents (even if they are 30)driving these things think they look like "Slim Shadey"?

37. Is a spoiler
the thing tacked onto the trunk that makes the car resemble some sort of shopping cart on steroids? I hate those things. But I think without a doubt the worst after market addition has to be the ever popular "God said it, I believe it, That settles it!" bumper sticker.
They never fail to make me swerve dangerously from white-knuckling the steering wheel. :grr:

The Natioal Hot Rod Association recently banned them from cars competing in their sanctioned drag racing events.

I haven't seen these things. I somehow do not feel deprived.

Pull up to them at the lights in my four-door Audi, glance back at their ridiculous wing, look them in the eye and laugh. Punch it when the lights change and leave them in my dust.

Oh ... did I forget to mention it was a bi-turbo four-door Audi?

22. A6 2.7T?
That's most likely my next car. Great combination of style comfort and performance. BTW, is yours chipped? 6 speed or auto? I've looked at some 6 speeds in my area, but with D.C. traffic I think it might be intolerable. I hear that the tiptronic with a tiptronic chip offers performance very similar to the manual. I know there are no cheaper engines to modify than those turbo 4s and 6s from Audi. APR makes a 500 buck chip that give 318 bhp and 378 lb/ft. That's some serious horsepower for the buck.

Mine's faster, though! (I've installed a Corsa catback exhaust since this snap.)

6 speeds CAN be a serious pain in city traffic but it really depends on the gear ratios. I have a Mitz 3000 GT VR4 that's a 5 speed turbo and never get it out of 4th in town whereas my 6 speed I can get in 5th in town but have to be on the highway to get it into 6th.

19. Those things aren't just silly, they're dangerous!
When the tool with the 'tude stops at a stop sign as you are driving straight with no stop sign, it looks as if he is still coming and about to pull right in front of you! These things will be banned once they cause a few wrecks (which they will).

I always used to think the incorrect badging was hilarious - IntegraR on a Geo, for example.

Yet on the link you provided we have the funniest damn thing I have ever seen on a ricer! HUBCAPS with fake brake rotors attached to them so they look like expensive wheels.

Omigawd I'm STILL lol! :toast:

24. Chevy Impala Super Sport...NO RIVALS
with ME behind the wheel! I was fearless. I draged anyone who I could engage. I spun out in a Chinese Restaurant parking lot because though I beat the person I was racing...there was one person in my lane stopped at a red light...imagine! Being PUMPED up on winning I was indefagatable! I was stopped at a light...I revved my engine to a sports car...maybe a MG or a Triumph...and we took off. When I finally stopped at the light at a VERY busy intersection. The LOSER pulled up beside me and put on his hat....HE WAS A COP ON HIS WAY TO WORK....I was arrested on the spot!....Reckless Driving....??? hu...just because YOU lost?

Anyway....I was scheduled to be at court on a certain date...and the day BEFORE I was to appear I received my Permanent License. It takes about one month after you take and pass the test for your Permanent License to reach your mail box!!! I spent that month drag racing and daring anyone to beat me????

Anyway....my VERY FIRST TICKET resulted in a MONTH in jail...with 27 days suspended...I spent a weekend in JAIL!! and my license I had JUST received in the mail to be suspended for one year.

TRULY THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME! HOW MANY PEOPLE COULD I HAVE KILLED HAD I CONTINUED ON MY DRAG RACING RAMPAGE???? I was not a good driver I was the DRIVER FROM HELL!!! How Our EGOS can claim lives????

31. Hmmmm...
I didn't have time to look at the site..

But the figure for 49.99 or 59.99 for the spinners doesn't seem right..

My downstairs neighbor has them on a nissan Altima, and he paid 2 grand for the set of 4 wheels and tires...

I think it's like most other things, done right it looks okay...

I have seen the spinners on some show cars and it looks sweeeeet....

It looks pretty bad ass when they're on the highway going say 80, and slow down to like 65.. so they're still hauling ass but the rims are spinning much faster...

Maybe I have wierd taste.. but I don't think those are that bad...

The worse is when someone takes a cheap ass japanese car.. and puts SMALL.. LOW ..WIDE wheels on it and makes it look like a roller skate...

I also hate that LAME ASS silver trim people put over the wheel wells.

36. I was going to vote for the same thing before I even read your post
According to a freind of mine; not only do they spin when the vehicle comes to a stop. If conditions are
right (something to do with the way the air catches them), they can rotate in a manner that makes it
look like the tires aren't turning when the car is in motion.
