Registering Democrats as Easy as Living!!
I've come upon a way to get more probable democrats registered and it is surprisingly easy. Think about it, when you go about your life, grocery shopping, stopping at restaurants, going to the dentist, the drive-by teller at the bank, having a drink at the bar, what are you doing? You are simply living your life, that's all. While doing this, about half the people you see aren't registered to vote.

Since working for the Dean team, we decided that one primary way to get Dean elected is to get more probable democrats registered. Where do we Democrats see these slacker, non-voters? They are often right in front of us. So, as we toil, as we recreate, why not carry a few voter registration forms along. So, I called up the office of the registrar, and told them of my affiliation with the Dean campaign, and asked if I could obtain some registration forms. They asked how many, I said well, in the hundreds for sure. I ended up driving downtown and picking up a couple of hundred, and so far have registered somewhere between 10 and 20 people, with very little effort other than living my life. I keep a few forms handy, as I'm about to leave I give a big smile, I say "Hey, are you registered?" "We can't be the strongest America without you voting, nor can we have the most representative government." Surprisingly, many say no, and are very interested. I drop the form off, not wanting to alienate the business, and tell them the needed details, they are mail-in forms that have two forms, and ask them if they can try to use the other form and register someone else. If I can't get anyone in particular, like at Blockbuster Video, I drop off a few forms and ask if they see fit to distribute them. They will, or they won't, most do but no big deal if they say no, just thank them and leave.

I haven't been able to post this on the Dean site, but I think it is a great idea to tap into the Dean voters, and Democrats in general, as they are often on the front-lines of the sales of goods, so we interact daily with them. All you have to do is get the forms, and take them in with you and see what you can do. If they tell you to leave, or not solicit, fine no harm done. But if you get person registered, and active, then you've done a service to America, you've been a patriot in the truest sense, and you've brought America to a more representative government. Most people just need a nudge, that's all. One guy was responsible for getting me involved, who guilted me just a bit, and I registered and have voted in every election since.

When we all vote, Democrats win. The secret to any elections is to not let them win, to not let them dissuade or discourage you, to not let them make you think you don't know what is up in the world and decide to vote. Voting is all we have, and we've paid so little attention, many of us, that they've almost corrupted that. Look at Florida 2000, where obvious manipulation occured, and there are allegations of fraud everywhere, of bad software, no exit-polls, no written record.

Pass this idea around, and if you are a dDean supporter, or a Democrat in general, get in the game. It is as easy as just living your life!

2. It works too.
I had to go to the search engine to find out what you were talking about. A version of Linux?

Imagine all of us, all campaigners for any of the nine great candidates. By the way, all the banter about how pathetic and pitiful is just "conservative maintream media" spin. They are all fine candidates, and the constant talk of bringing in Biden or Clark caters to the "pathetic" theory, and should be both stopped, and pointed out. How quick do you think the media would add either Biden or Clark to the pathetic list should they enter the fray.

3. Excellent post, Mike!
Before the 2002 election, I was doing something similar but on a smaller scale. But your post has inspired me to pick up another batch of registration forms and get going again.

4. A friend of mine took an ACLU course on voter registration
She sets a table outside the grocery store and signs people up.
