Bush coming to Richfield, Ohio Labor Day 9/1/03--time and location
"Welcome" George Bush in Richfield on Labor Day
The Ohio AFL-CIO is calling a protest rally to coincide with the Ohio
visit of George Bush on Labor Day in Richfield (northern Summit County). While details of Bush's visit have still not been made public, details of the called protest rally are:

Richfield City Park
(next to the Operating Engineer's Training Center
4675 Newton Rd, Richfield -- where Bush is expected to appear) 9 AM
Bush is expected to arrive 10:00 or 10:30 and leave at noon.

(the park can be reached from state route 303 on Oviatt Rd which dead
ends at Newton Rd. The park can also be accessed from state route 176 to Newton Road)

1. And this on the heels of the 60 Minutes segment about food lines in Ohio
where veterans and other (formerly) working people are standing in line for hours to feed their families. The arrogance of Bush knows no bounds, indeed.

2. Is Summit County "bush country"?
get ready for a "first ammendment zone", obviously.

4. Some stuff from the Richfield Times (no online link)
Notes from the Richfield Times article "Getting Ready to Greet the President of the United States"

"unusual for the President's trip to be announced a month in advance"

The chief of police in Richfield was asked to present a list of officials who should be invited to attend. The chief listed the mayor, trustees, council, and fire chief. Secret service informed him that his last was longer than the normal, but approved.

With just over two weeks to go, Repub headquarters in Akron had no advance notice or instructions.

Kucinich's office had not been notified, and had a scheduling conflict. But George Voinovich (who was ostracised for questioning the size of the tax cuts, before caving) "most likely will attend". Hmmm. Governor Bob Taft is planning to attend.

And from the Akron Beacon Journal on Friday:

Noted, the "Non-Bush" people were previously scheduled to be allowed to gather in the adjacent ballpark, but were moved to half a mile away.

7. actually, the Goops assemble at a monastery and are bussed in
so it is technically that they are not dividing the demonstrators and supporters. I must admit that I do not have it all sorted out yet.

6. Will someone please plan to attend as a stand in for me
I've got a new un-paid position as caretaker! Family of "only child" IT vet rolled off three weeks ago.
