GOP website stifles dissent
I recently read about a website whose google ranking i'm not going to help (www dot crushkerry dot com). I went to check it out and saw a lot of hate-spewers spouting a bunch of john kerry conspiracy theories and other such nonsense. I made some posts on a couple of the threads, and found them promptly deleted from the site very soon. So I signed up a user account, and it got deleted, along with all the posts I made.

I've had 7 or 8 user accounts since, all of which are deleted in a matter of hours, along with all the messages on the boards. Most (not all) of my posts were simply trying to engage these right-wingers in an actual discussion with facts, rather than just frothing at the mouth about one candidate or the other. 99 per cent of my contributions were scrubbed from the site.

I realize that the admin of the site can do whatever he wants with his property. I know that the Underground here has similar policies in effect about unwanted members. I accept the fact (and expected it) that my user accounts would get deleted, and even my IP addy banned ( it was). But I can't believe that the admin went through the php code and removed all evidence of the dissent from the website. I find that highly dubious and orwellian, especially when they post threads about liberals stifling dissent.

I've since been in email contact with the guy, one Pat Hynes, and he has called me such names as "know-it-all jerk" and stuff. I did my homework and found out that he is a copywriter at Marsh Copsy Scott, a republican ad firm. The crushkerry website is a vehicle, eye candy if you will, for prospective clients, and there can be not even a whiff of desent for these potential clients to see.

I'm asking all of you who read this to stop by www dot crushkerry dot com and make a few contributions to the content. Submit a story, start a discussion thread, say something good about John Kerry or bad about Bush, and give Mr. Hynes plenty of sleepless nights trying to eradicate all evidence of dissent from his website.

2. my email correspondence with Pat

So if I contribute some money to your website, you'll stop deleting my stuff, eh?

Pat: 03-08-04 11:06am

Funny. Just stop being a know-it-all jerk. Playful banter is fun. hate is a distraction. Know what I mean?

Oh, and a contribution would be great.

Me: 03-08-04 12:22pm

To posit that you and your gang are the epitome of 'playful banter' is nonsense; hate festers all over this website. But back to the original issue: Will a 50 dollar contribution to crushkerry.com buy me a personal guarantee that any posts of mine not containing swear words or rage-fueled commentary go undeleted?

Pat: 03-08-04 12:55pm

Well, there's no quid pro quo, if that's what you're asking.

By the way ... there was a fascinating article recently in the American Spectator about who really is stifling dissent. I thought you might enjoy it.

(he links me to an article on spectator dot org. didn't mention
that he wrote it
)

Me 03-09-04 2:43pm

Thought-provoking. But I'm willing to bet Howard Dean wouldn't have gone into FOX's archives and deleted any evidence of anything he didn't agree with.

Here's an equally fascinating article by Will Saletan. Doesn't have much to do with the story you linked me to, but it does address the bigger problem: Why America and the world can not afford four more years of Bush.

Pat 03-09-04 5:42pm

look, I'm sure you're a perfectly nice guy, but has it occured to you at all yet that you will NOT change our minds about George W. Bush and John Kerry and perhaps you oughtn't try any longer. It really is tiring combing through the site and deleting your confused ramblings. There are plenty of left-wing sites out there I'm sure would love to have you.

On another matter, I'm working a story about all the liberals who log on to (yes, I know who you are). We are the subject of a number of conspiracy-minded blogs, etc. Liberals have ceratinly sat up and taken notice ... Do you care to comment for the record about your daily activities?

6. saw a little of that
Saw the kerry bashing, but I also saw that no one was behind the scenes sweeping it under the rug. Thanks for the welcome!

5. Funny side note
It was kind of satisfying to see changes being made on the site in response to my participation. Anonymous posting is no longer allowed, and several of the message threads were deleted all together.

8. You should know by now
...that extreme right wingers cannot handle any contradictions in their lives. If the facts don't fit the ideiology, throw out the facts. If somebody has the gall to tell you one of your cherished beliefs may be false, eliminate them from your life. Stick your fingers in your ears, jam your eyes shut tight, and hum as loud as you can, so that you can continue to belong to the "right" club.

Crashing right wing sites trying to educate these people is a waste of precious time. These are cultists, and the longer they live in their little dittohead bubble, the more unrealistic they will sound, and the sooner we'll march them back to the lunatic fringe where they belong.
