The Pentagon's General Counsel William Haynes has been nominated for a seat on the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals. This should be a cause of grave concern to anyone who cherishes the civil liberties enshrined in our constitution. As the Pentagon's top lawyer, Haynes has played a central role in shaping military policy regulating the detention of prisoners in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay.
