VP - Edwards or McCain?
On one of the news shows today I heard a lengthly discussion on how the speculation for VP candidate is down to Edwards or McCain? Is this true and which ticket would you rather vote for - Kerry/Edwards or Kerry/McCain?

2. Kerry/Edwards
Edwards would strengthen the Kerry ticket and give it more of a youthful appeal. A Kerry/McCain ticket is pure speculation that is hyped by the media. During this election cycle the media often has created stories when the campaign gets dull, like now.

3. McCain is a Republican
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 03:23 PM by 56kid
How many times does this have to be said?
McCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a RepublicanMcCain is a Republican

Why not have Bob Dole be the vice president if you're going to pick a republican?

I'd vote for Kerry/Edwards because Edwards is a Democrat.

What if Kerry died in office? Then we'd have a Republican president.
Great idea! not.

What does it say about the Democratic party to even consider this?

It definitely says something about the media.

on edit -- can we kill kill kill this idea of McCain for vice president once and for all. Gee, I bet all the other immensely qualified Democratic politicians who could be in the running for vice president don't like it either.:argh:

4. I concur. The whole McCain VP thing is a fantasy.
It is just not going to happen. I don't know why such wishful thinking and speculation ends up spreading so far. The guy is a RE-PUB-LIC-AN!

8. I realize McCain is a Republican
At first when I heard the story a couple days ago I laughed because of this reason. When I heard Tony Snow (yes, I realize he's Repub too) and this other person named Susan (don't know the last name) talk at length about it, I took the idea more seriously. I know McCain is not happy with Bush, I've heard him speak often enough to realize this. I was getting the impression that perhaps McCain was getting fed up with his party and thinking of jumping parties. There have been politicians in the past that have jumped parties.

9. McCain is not unhappy with his party.
His party is Republican... He is a faithful Republican and does not want to change.... if he did he would (note Sen JEFFORDS) I am really tired of this talk as it appears to the repubs that they are right in saying the Dems don't have any persons that could be veep or president for that matter......Why ?

12. You know what I'm tired of?
Innocently asking a question and being made to feel like I'm wasting other people's time. I've put out a few posts and there always seems to be one or 2 people who find a need to be condescending.

17. I don't think McCain has any reason to switch now.
When Jim Jeffords switched parties, it was because it would swing the Senate to the Democrats and so at least in the short run he would not be punished by the Republicans because they would have no power. If McCain switches parties now, it doesn't change anything except that he's now despised by Republicans, his criticism of Bush has less weight (not being intra-party anymore), and he has to start over with a new political organization. Why on earth would McCain switch parties during this Congressional session?

19. That's the beauty..he shouldn't switch
He sends a much stronger message to the nation if he doesn't switch. If he remains a republican and runs with Kerry, it shows the electorate just how extreme the Bush camp is.

The way I see this is a Kerry/Edwards or Kerry/Richardson ticket wins, but the nation more-or-less stays at 50/50. But a Kerry/McCain ticket has epic historical potential, and I think it would bring about a major realignment...affecting this nation for at least 30 years (in our favor).

Let's face it, the right-wingers have proven to be superior at getting their way when the country is evenly spit. It's not good enough just to beat them (ask the Big Dog), we have to spank them back under their rocks. Kerry/McCain is our best chance of achieving that...I'm talking 68%+ uber-landslide win.

Lastly, I may not agree with the majority of McCain's stances, but I do respect him (as I think many Dems do), and he has proven to me that he has the nation's, not Ken Lay's et al, best interest at heart.

23. McCain, is another lazy carbon arrogant copy of Bush
Same...next to last at West Point, bragged he wished he had been last, definition of another arrogant Bush. Forget it he isn't going to get the nod, concentrate on beating Bush.

5. Kerry/Edwards
It's our best chance...McCain's a pipe dream, that would never happen. Even though he's pretty moderate, he's still a Republican...but honestly, if I had the foresight to think that ticket's more electable and has a better chance to win, I'd take that.

14. Graham

I continue to believe that he is the best choice. Foreign policy and intelligence credentials galore, and he is amazingly popular in Florida, a state without which the Repukes cannot win.

18. Can we have Clark please?
Going for the Southerner with lots of credibility on national security... Like Clinton/Gore doubling up on the Southern regional affiliation, we should double up on the national security because economics is already our strong suit.
