Dean leads Democrats(in Iowa), but many undecided

Even so, other poll findings suggest that Dean's lead over Gephardt and the other Democratic contenders has a firm foundation:

* Dean's support is fairly broad-based. Among likely caucus participants he is the first choice of 36 percent of those with incomes topping $70,000, 28 percent of those with college degrees, 28 percent of those between the ages of 45 and 64, 28 percent of those from small cities, and 28 percent of men.

* In competing with Gephardt and others for the support of the labor vote, a key Democratic constituency, Dean is the first choice of 29 percent of likely caucus participants from households with a union member. Gephardt, who received pivotal support from labor groups in 1988, is supported by 24 percent from union households. Kerry's share is 11 percent.

* Dean is generally well regarded. Among those who are familiar enough with him to have an opinion, 38 percent rate their feelings toward him as very favorable. That compares with 33 percent who view Kerry very favorably, 29 percent for Gephardt and 14 percent for Lieberman.

* Among Iowans polled who say they definitely will attend the Democratic caucuses, which is a firmer commitment than those saying they probably will attend, Dean's lead grows to 10 points over Gephardt.

I wonder if this poll accounts for all of the new people Dean is supposedly bringing into the process?

...I want to beat Shrub so badly the lil bitch goes crying home to daddy. I want to beat him mercilously, so that even widespread vote fraud won't save his sorry ass. And it can happen, oh yeah, it can happen...

First, this is not some poll which can be discounted. The Des Moines Register is very well respected nationally and in the state. Second,look at the numbers of those who say they definitely are going to the caucuses--it is ten-points over Gep. Third, People can't discount Dean as just the candidate of teeny-boppers (or Deany-boppers)since he does so well with people ages 45-64.

Other significant findings: Dean leads Gep among organized labor!! this is great news. Union heads may be breaking for Gep but the rank and file has an open mind.

He is showing he can put together a broad coalition. Excellent news for Howard Dean.

Finally--men!! Dems need to pick up strength with men and many polls besides this one indicates that Dean is doing well with men.

Perhaps some of those "Adopt-an-Iowan" letters helped as well.

The Doctor is SOOOO In!

...they did, and now we're writing to NH.

We will do the same thing we did in Iowa and write to uncommitted New Hampshirites. Hopefully it will help propell Dean to a lead there (he has been either tied or slightly behind Kerry).

It is beginning to appear that Dean could win both New Hampshire and Iowa outright and have the most money in March. That would be beyond my wildest hopes when I signed on to this campaign.

Dean never was expected to raise the most money. He was never expected to do well in Iowa. He was never expected to do as well as Kerry in New Hampshire. It is still early but this is looking sweet very very sweet.
